I thought this video was really interesting, does anyone have anymore knowledge of how modified Xbox 360 consoles work? I know a website called The Console Warehouse which sells them and has a pretty good rep, would love to grab one tbh to pass the time aha

Nah, you may as well say get an N64 because the games were great in the day. Retro is retro.
Xbox one and games from CEX dirt cheap, you cant go wrong.

I chipped my Xbox 360 slim trinity (ace V3 chip) and put a 2TB drive in it. This is known as the RGH method (reset glitch hack) and in summary interrupts the system at a specific point and injects code allowing full control of the system. This is handled by a timing file that you flash to the chip and the chip does all the rest.

I'm not sure what it is you specifically want to know, but here are the basics:

It allows you to run a unsigned code (homebrew apps) therefore the ability to run a custom dashboard and software. I use the aurora dashboard.

You can FTP files across to it (including full Xbox 360 games, original Xbox games, Xbox live arcade games, emulators and roms. An example of why this is good - I've got the unreleased Goldeneye game on mine.

You can run trainers for the games (cheats/hacks)

You can block the console from connecting to the Xbox live servers so you don't end up getting the console banned. I think there are custom online servers available for playing online but I've never tried.

Game updates and patches are handled via a 3rd party server (this functionality is built into aurora)

It allows any region games to be played - NTSC, NTSC-J on a pal console and vice versa.

You can set custom fan curves if you want to make the console quieter or run cooler, etc.

So in short it allows you full access to the Xbox 360.

The other method is the JTAG but this requires an old console on a specific dashboard. This isn't worth pursuing in my opinion due to a number of factors - primarily cost and the fact it's not possible on slim consoles.

Lastly the DVD drives are exploitable if you didn't want to go down the full modchip route, once flashed you can run "backup" discs. However if you do go for a modchipped console this is not necessary.
