Joined in on the fun back in November!
Really enjoyed it, probably my favourite of all the souls games (played all but Dark Souls 2). I actually found it the easiest one I've played, not sure if that's just experience in the series generally but I didn't get really stuck at any point like I have in other games in the series.

What weapon did you end up using for most of the game? I upgraded my b4st4rd sword to +3 and was going all strength build but in the chieftan area the larger sword kept hitting off the walls and being deflected before hitting enemies, so I found a Mace (blessed)+1 and have been smashing with that. Beaten the phalanx, then huge knight boss and the weird first boss called Leech or similar and now am wading around in the Poison swamp area.

I think I found the Crescent Scimitar quite early on and focused on a Magic build so I was using a combination of magic and the sword, so about as easy as you can make it reading all the Demon's Souls resources but it was enjoyable. Would wield one of the catalysts in my left hand and the sword in the right, swapping the catalyst for a shield when getting up close. Fully upgraded the scimitar by the end and the damage on both that and the spells was crazy.

One way or the other I have refused to use any spells in any of the soulsborne games except one time when I learned the basic heal spell on Ds1 I believe.
I started out with a strength build but this nice Mace doesn't scale on strength and I have wasted lots of level on strength already, so all in, I would say my character is now a bit of a mess as I am gonna start scrabbling around trying to build up my faith stat and I cannot level up this Divine mace until the third or fourth world.
