Humankind - a Civs-like 4X historic game
Discussion
Not seen anything on this here yet thought worthwhile to highlight.
I have not played any of the betas before release yesterday (17th August) and think it's a good Civ-like but isn't the 'Civ Killer' some people out there were implying.
The main USP is you don't pick a single faction for your game but pick a 'culture' per age of humanity (7 in all) so you don't get stuck into one playstyle for the whole game. You carryover the era boosts for the chosen culture per era as you advance through the eras to end up with a pretty complex build in the final era. The final goal is to get the most Fame before you reach turn limit (can be tweaked in game settings) via conquest, science, commerce, diplomacy etc. Game really comes alive at higher difficulties when the AI uses all the game mechanics and is not be a placid walkover like at lower difficulties.
I think the game is a slow burn due to the inherent complexity of the meta through culture swapping, I can imagine in a few weeks some OP builds will be rotating through the online game making it not fun for new players. I think if you played Civ 6, Endless Space 2 and Endless Legend it will feel like a pretty good balance of all three.
Anyone else here looking to get this game?
