Hi all, sorry to be thick, but my 12 year old son has Fifa 21 and had 'built up' 500,000 coins (I'm not sure how he gets them - I don't think he's paid money for them that I know of).

So today Fifa 22 arrives, and he says he's lost them all. I asked why, and he said 'because it's a new game!". I can't understand this at all? Surely, it's just an upgrade?

I haven't played games for 25 years, so I will admit I haven't a clue...........but sounds a bit of a rip off?

500k coins isn’t a huge amount, if it’s ultimate team coins that could be just one top players worth. You accumulate the coins by playing games, getting more for winning than losing etc, can buy in game packs, much like panini sticker packs and sometimes get good players to sell on the in game marketplace

They become useless as everyone moves to the newest version, not great but it’s been this way for 7/8 years easily

So he should spend them well before October then? (he always gets the newest game)

Well spending them won’t really change anything because nothing transfers to the new game. If he wants to build a new team now then he’ll get much better players than say 6 weeks ago, but other than that they’re pointless.

Edit - to add if they’re coins they can’t be transferred to fifa 22, but if they’re fifa points then I think they can be transferred on the first time you start the game up

Everything, apart from FIFA Points, is reset when you move to FIFA 22.

The first time you log into FIFA22 you’re offered the opportunity to transfer points. Not cross-platform though.

Thanks. He said he hasn’t any points as you have to buy them? He never buys anything other than the physical game disc apparently.

Yeah points are bought with real cash, which can be used to buy in game packs which will get you coins from selling unwanted items

It's because EA are a disgusting money grabbing corporation who re release the same game every year and charge you £70 for the privilege.
In case you haven't noticed I'm not a fan.

Is there a creditable alternative though?

I'm trying to get my lad to try efootball from konami this year as EA piss me off so much. He downloaded it today but hasn't tried it.

You can just get last years game off a mate and never pay them a penny if you are that tight smile

This, my son blows a fortune on FIFA it’s his own money but I think it’s completely wrong.
