Flawed games that you enjoy regardless
Discussion
For the last 6 weeks I've been playing Generation Zero; a flawed game and despite giving up on it 2 weeks in, I redownloaded after a few days and got back into it accepting that it had a learning curve and mechanics I just needed to understand. Since then I've been playing it most nights for a few hours and enjoy it now that I've upgraded skills and weapons. The devs have also been shipping a lot of updates for the game recently which have improved some aspects I had issues with initially.
However speaking to a friend about it the other day and he asked me if I would recommend it, and I really struggled to. There is a lot I like about the game but for every good point, there is a poor point to counter it. Yet I can't seem to put the game down! At least just yet. I've a few other games I want to get started with but right now I can't seem to give up on GZ.
Has anyone else experienced something similar? It's a new one for me; I usually either really like a game and play it to death, or dislike a game and just cut is loose straightaway. This one has me flummoxed.

Cyberpunk 2077, didn't really have any issues playing through it. Yes, it wasn't as described and that's inexcusable but it's still a tremendous game IMO.
Test Drive Unlimited, played this to absolute death when I was younger and then again during the first lockdown. It was a pain to do a lot of stuff as the roads were super janky in places. Lots of people complained about the physics engine but I loved it, just everything about the game was brilliant to me.
GTA IV, again, seen by lots as the flawed one (though it was obviously super popular) but I loved it.

What was flawed about GTA4 (apart from the "want to go bowling?") - I don't remember any major issues (including the DLC)?Not having a go - just really couldn't remember any issues!
My contribution to enjoyable but flawed games - any Lego game ever. Immense fun but normally ship with some ridiculous bugs - Lego Jurassic World for example you couldn't swap back from dinosaur to a character in a couple of places which sort of broke the game. Got fixed with a patch eventually, but annoying to start with.

Surely it would have been manic minor? But yes I agree JSW when you die, you die and die and die until, well, you're dead.PS did anyone ever find the lost isle level without cheating? I managed to find every single level apart from that one as a kid.

War Thunder / World of Tanks
Both have infuriating game mechanics, new vehicles added which upset the balance, WT in particular is a pig to level up the tech tree without spending a lot of money, but once in the game they're generally fun to play.
Back in the day...
Ground Control (quick clip) - I loved it but it had some weird mechanics and bugs that meant it never really became popular, the most annoying thing was friendly fire was a thing but the AI routing send your units between units that were firing and the enemy...

Cyberpunk 2007 - played it far too much, though a year and a quarter on, with patch 1.5, arguably you now have the game that should have been released.
This, give up when it first releasebut on my 3rd playthrough since patch 1.5. Their story is good, and there are just so many small details like movie/game references to find, as well as trying different build for different playstyle
DayZ, played on console even more so
Abusively difficult with zero direction or instruction, an inventory that is still frustratingly clunky and awkward to use even after 250+ hours of play, buggy, graphically 2 generations out of date, awful 'physics', painfully grindy but with permadeath on top for an extra treat, online only, no plot, no goals beyond the arbitrary 'survive', awkward and complex controls...
But nothing else quite hits the spot in the same way. Hence the 250+ hours

This pretty much sums up Generation Zero for me (albeit without permadeath) Abusively difficult with zero direction or instruction, an inventory that is still frustratingly clunky and awkward to use even after 250+ hours of play, buggy, graphically 2 generations out of date, awful 'physics', painfully grindy but with permadeath on top for an extra treat, online only, no plot, no goals beyond the arbitrary 'survive', awkward and complex controls...

It was a much grittier, darker story than the previous games. Many people also hated the way vehicles handled, I found it very satisfying once you got the hang of it, GTA 5 handling was a backwards step imo.
The DLC added some colour and fun back into, especially the ballad of gay Tony
