I’ve been casually checking PS5 stock since release date and have never seen it in stock anywhere (it must have been immediately sold out minutes or hours after becoming available. However, I’ve now found it in stock with Very.co.uk and bizarrely it’s been showing as in stock for a good few days. I haven’t tried to order one but would like to get one next month. Is this for real? Is it really in stock? How has it not been instantly sold out to bots and scalpers?

Very.com is where I got mine from
I went on Stock Informer, set up a notification, three days later it came through saying Very.com had them with Ratchet and Clank (they also had other different bundle options)
When I went back on Stock Informer later on apparently they were on sale throughout that day, I didn't even have to buy one as soon as I saw it. So I can believe what you say about they've been for sale for a while.
I hope I'm not coming across as an arse here, but based on my experience, it's really not that hard to get a PS5. Set up a notification or keep an eye on the right Twitter accounts and you can get one pretty quick. The only thing you have to be prepared for is to buy one when they come through and you might have to be getting it as a bundle of some kind

BT have had them in stock for their broadband customers for ages. A combination of summer and general cost of living rises have reduced demand, production has picked up a bit. There are less desperate customers who would pay a big mark up, so scalpers aren’t as bothered, and they are finally generally available.

I have now just bought one for my Son from Very as you mentioned above in a bundle with Horizon Forbidden West. They are hard to just buy without being involved with websites which alert you. Thanks to your tip on Very I have got him one.
Even more Bizarre, this is his Christmas present and wont be getting it early. I think closer to the time they will be even harder to get so made sense to buy now when it was available.

Just a FYI - I randomly checked the GAME website - they are showing as having Disc consoles in stock (Stock informer only showing digital console in stock)
Ordered one with the quote of being delivered tomorrow.... we will see! In the meantime i'll leave my pre-order with Very open :-)

I just gave up on getting a PS5 and went all-in on PC gaming.
A bigger upfront investment in the hardware but so much more flexible (I can play on PC on a 32:9 monitor, or stream the games to my main telly like a console, or stream PCVR games wirelessly to my Quest headset or enjoy a range of my Steam games via NVidia Geforce now cloud streaming) and the actual games can be had very cheaply compared to console. Also, the PC pretty much gets everything that the Xbox has plus a lot of the top 'PS exclusive' titles eventually too. And a huge variety of third-party independent games that often never make it to consoles. As a bonus, lots of them are really easy to get into compared to modern AAA titles.
I haven't touched my PS4 Pro in over a year now even though I have a huge backlog of games on it. A PS5 would be nice to enjoy most of those titles with higher framerates and faster loading of course but I can't be bothered to jump through hoops to get a big 'Tower of Sauron' box to try to fit into my living room setup.
Maybe if Sony come out with a more compact 'Slim' model I'll reconsider augmenting the PC but I doubt it, I just see less and less value in it.

Popped into Game (Reading Oracle) last Friday, they had just had (another) delivery of both Disc (just console) and Digital editions (Horizon combo) and were starting to run out of space in the stock room due to the number they had.....I also saw some disc versions come into Stock on Amazon last week. Hence, I think the struggle for stock is easing a little now.
