Xbox Ultimate Pass renewal

My nephew got an xbox S for his xmas last year, I bought him a years xbox ultimate pass for it by buyng a 1 years gold membership code and then upgrading it for £1 with an offer microsoft had on. This is going to expire on the 24th of December.

Can anyone advise if I can let it expire and then do this again for this xmas?

Yes it works as I have just done it.
Let it expire, buy Xbox live gold up to a max of 36 months, then subscribe to ultimate for £10.99 (as you have already used the £1 promo deal) which converts the months of gold on a 1:1 to ultimate, then cancel recurring billing and your set.

edit to add: I did this myself over the last few days and activated it all last night. I did have access to a £1 trial for the Ultimate pass, which was applied after stacking 3 lots of 12 month Gold passes via South Africa, however you can pick up those trial codes about about 1-2 quid on ebay apparently.

Just to follow this one up, I ended up letting my Ultimate Pass expire, then bought 3 x 12 months Gold Pass (£25 each) and 1 months Ultimate Pass (£5) for Turkey both via CD Keys.

Redeemed them all via free windscribe VPN to Turkey.
Total cost was £80 for 3 years ultimate pass.
