Hello. My nearly 10 year old son wants VR. I was told that the Meta 2 was half decent but it seems to suggest it's for 13 years and over. Is this due to content or will the headset be too big? The other option is the PlayStation one as we have a PS5 in the house. Anybody got any experience with either, and either any good for a 10 year old?

Probably will be issues with the eye spacing for the lenses ... there's not a lot of adjustability in the Quest 2 so it's designed to fit on the average adult head with a bit of adjustment either way (wider or narrower spacing). If the lenses are off, the picture can be very bad (blurry, double-vision etc).

Likely a similar story with PSVR (1 or 2).

Also, pretty sure that VR isn't recommended for younger kids as there are worries about development of coordination skills if it is overused.

Give it a few more years, I would say.

Good excuse to buy one for yourself and let him have a shot now and again.

Oculus was bought by Facebook - now Meta. Minimum age for Facebook accounts is 13 hence the limit as you previously needed a Facebook account active for the Quest to work.

Daft question, how does this work, do you download games from Meta I assume you download via the headset to the headset?

Quest 2 can be played wireless unsure how that works but with a meta/oculus rift s works with vr games downloaded onto pc.

Yes, that's correct - all via the headset interface (app store type thing) no PC needed.

For playing PC on Quest wirelessly, you can either use the Oculus Software's 'Airlink' function which is OK or spend a few quid for the (IMO) superior 'Virtual Desktop' solution. I think there's now a dedicated wireless dongle for the PC available if your home WiFi isn't up to snuff - might be only for the Airlink though.

Both Oculus' own range of PC games plus Steam VR will work via wireless (or wired of course) link to the headset. Unfortunately Oculus stopped developing new PC games in favour of native Quest 2 titles, which is a shame as they funded some really premium PC stuff.
