So what is everyone's game of the year, can be either a game that released this year or a game you played for the first time in 2022.

For me it would have been Elden Ring by quite some way, if it was purely on a game released in 2022. However, I played Red Dead 2 for the first time back in January and that is an absolute 10/10 masterpiece.

It's hard to see in objective terms, how anything could top the scope, depth and quality of Elden Ring. It is quite simply a masterpiece of gaming.

I never buy or play 'new' games. I've got hundreds of older games on my ps4 from ps plus, ps store sales etc.
I really enjoyed Assassin's Creed Origins and Far Cry 5.
But for me , The Witcher 3 is my favourite game this year. Utterly fantastic game. And when my PS5 arrives, I'll start it all over again!thumbup

No new games for me, and no games at all since June as I moved overseas (can’t wait to get home and collect my consoles and bring them back with me). But start of 2022 I bought a One S and gamepass for the first time and had at it.

Standout games for me were Gears of War 4 & 5 which I played for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed. Also played Generation Zero for a fair bit and whilst it is flawed (open world but quite empty, flawed combat, limited enemies) I sunk a lot of hours into it because the premise of the game was pretty interesting (basically the Horizon Zero Dawn apocalypse event set in 80s Sweden).

GoW Ragnarok for me. That will stay with me for a long time.

Already forgotten Elden Ring tbh

It's been a pretty poor year for gaming.
While a chunk of games have had high praise, they've not really appealed to me.

My GOTY is probably Gran Turismo 7, which isn't saying much as I'd struggle to rate it higher than an 8/10.

I replayed RDR2 this year, as I have done every year since launce and it's still a masterpiece but I felt it would be cheating to count that as I've played it so much in the past.

Was working through some back catalogue games for most of this year. My favourite by some margin was Control - brilliant game that I’d never heard of before!

Trying to figure out what I played this year

Elden Ring
Loop Hero
Hardspace: Shipbreaker
Vampire Survivors

That’s off the top of my head, there are probably more.

For sheer satisfaction - vampire survivors as stated above.

I also played Elden Ring a couple of times through. In many ways it is exceptional.

New games it has to be Vampire Survivors, made boring flights pass in a blink.

Something from the pile of shame that I thoroughly enjoyed was Subnautica.

Probably Art of Rally for me. Lovely, simple, funny, easy to pop into for 15 mins while waiting for the wife

I can't really nail down how much I love Vampire Survivors tbh. First game in years I had got all achievements for, until the dlc came out anyway.

I'd say GT7 as it was so bad it made me buy a PC and play ACC which, thanks to LFM, is brilliant!

Mine too, I’m not sure I’ve ever been so immersed in the world of a game before. Easily in my top 5 ever.

Really cool idea and very well executed.

If you like that play quantum break. By the same studio. I enjoyed it a lot and have been trying to get into control. it’s a very similar style of game including combat. I’ll give control another go.

Interesting. I played Quantum Break first and gave up on it about 25% of the way in. Great story but the combat and movement felt clunky and awkward, whereas Control felt agile and quick. I still have it somewhere so maybe should have another go.

Aagh! Forgot about that one! Great game. Checked my history and I did play it this year. I must have enjoyed it to bother completing it fully! biggrin
