VR headset - for fitness and occasional gaming
Discussion
Sort of a newbie question - I am looking to get a VR headset for virtual fitness games primarily. Are there any which are recommended ( games availability, hardware dependency etc) ? Do I also need other hardware eg gaming laptop or PS5 or Xbox etc? If yes what is recommended ? What is possible without additional hardware ( can you store basic games on the headset itself - if yes, what memory size recommended)
Any pointers for a neat little setup much appreciated.

Thrill of the Fight - Boxing game, I think it’s worth the money I paid for the Headset on its own, great way to get that heart pumping, and reducing those stress levels.
Holopoint - Archery game, great for warming up before you start boxing.
I recently bought an Oculus Quest 2, and it’s all you’ll need.
I bought a HTC Vive when they were first released, and needed a £3k rig to attach it to and to have lighthouses dotted around the room to track my movements. The Oculus is untethered, stand alone and costs a fraction of what I paid for the HTC Vive setup. Things have certainly moved on.

Worth pointing out that the Quest 2 can also be attached to a suitable PC and used for PC VR gaming, as well as stand-alone. That's all I ever use mine for, never really found any native Oculus games that interest me - happy to hear suggestions though?
Quite enjoyed Resident Evil for a bit of retro gaming. Very different in VR!Timely thread!
My son has been badgering me for a Meta Quest 2.
A friend has one that I've tried out and it's very impressive so I am tempted (played a little Resident Evil which was great, some Sabre game that was a bit uninspiring and the obligatory roller coaster ride thingy)
Question is - is it one of those things that get used for a month and then shoved in a cupboard when the novelty wears off?
How many truly worthwhile VR titles are there or is it all still mainly short tech demos?

I bought a Meta Quest 2 last night, there is a deal on now where you get the upgraded strap (RRP £60) for free so I thought it a good time. Also got a £24 referral bonus from a family member. I used Argos if interested. CEX do second-hand for £320, but I'm wary of used VR due to scratches on lenses, sun damage, sweaty minging headsets. Plus with the £84 freebies it brings it in line anyway.
I'm drawn to it mainly as it's an all in one with hand tracking (I think? But no finger) and most of the current titles work on it. Quick peruse of titles last night and there are plenty boxing / dance / fitness games.
Edit: Also have a 3060ti in a gaming PC so I will likely hook it up to that for the PC range of stuff.

FS2020 is impressive on it and Google Earth is utterly incredible.I'm drawn to it mainly as it's an all in one with hand tracking (I think? But no finger) and most of the current titles work on it. Quick peruse of titles last night and there are plenty boxing / dance / fitness games.

the new PSVR 2 has had some good feedback
GT7 and No Mans Sky from launch as well (free upgrades)
I just hope beat sabre works with it, nothing VR compares to beat sabre for working out
