I absolutely loved CoD 2. In particular I like all players starting equal at the beginning of each game, and not needing to buy stuff etc to get an advantage over other players. Also the simplicity of the weaponry.

Is there a modern equivalent that is set in WW2 with similar characteristics? TY.

The battlefield WW1/2 games are good, much larger maps but really good, satisfying weapons. There can be a bit of a learning curve and you need to unlock better guns etc but it's the best thing for that era warfare that isn't full on simulator/hardcore (Hell Let Loose etc).

Many thanks rod.

I got Battlefield 1 years ago but don't like having to unlock weapons and stuff. I like all players being equal at the start of each game. I tried WoT and started in a tin can with a pea shooter being shot up the a$$ by Tiger tanks and what have you.

Battlefield 2 is modern stuff.

It seems there is no WW2 FPS similar to CoD2

Battlefield 5 followed Battlefield 1 and was WW2, that's pretty good online.
Also Hell Let Loose and Enlisted (which is free to play but an mmo), there was a modern WW2 COD game too but I don't remember what it was called.

Hell Let Loose is what you are looking for. WW2, realistic, with a steep learning curve.
