Goldeneye coming to Xbox
Discussion
One of the best games of all time is going to be available on Xbox game pass on the 27th Jan.
Local split screen in Temple FTW.
So giddy about this.

Not downloaded it yet but judging from the videos on YouTube of the xbox version it just the old N64 game. Probably running in an emulator. Looks like its runs like crap too.
What a crock of s
t.
I was just expecting it would be a HD remaster like they did with Perfect Dark. Why didn't they just use the already completed XBox 360 port?
Or better still, use the engine from the Perfect Dark Remaster, port over the 'game' and then we could have some new stuff like split screen co-op and multiplayer bots.
And you need Game Pass to get it? Why I would I want game pass? Who wants to spend £12 a month to play shovelware, asset flips and mobile phone games on an XBox? I simply can't wait to play 'Train Sim World', 'Tetris' or 'Powerwash Simulator'.

Rare (now part of Microsoft) made the game, Nintendo published, and MGM owns the Bond licence (which Amazon now owns MGM). Plus anything with other licences like music and likeness rights are on top of that. To remaster a game, you need permission & need to pay everyone involved, and I'm assuming they couldn't come to an arrangement. The XBLA remaster that you mentioned was all basically finished, but ultimately shelved for this reason
This is also why multiplayer on this shoddy release is on the Switch version, but not on the Xbox one.
To see what we could have had, here's some leaked footage of the XBLA Remaster https://youtu.be/A0GinqO4lhU

Whats the point in that? Anyone who wants to play goldeneye at higher resolution has been doing so for last 20 years on Project64.Rare (now part of Microsoft) made the game, Nintendo published, and MGM owns the Bond licence (which Amazon now owns MGM). Not legally though, plenty of people are not tech-savvy enough to use emulation, so will be willing to pay for a copy that will work on their console.
Or, it's enough of a shoddy job to push people to emulate. What a waste of a chance to sort the licenses out and get the XBLA version out, and re-release Perfect Dark on the Switch, and add cross-multiplayer....Part of a bigger section of "Why Steve is upset with the current state of gaming". Stay tuned for more.
Crikey, tough crowd!
Having had the golden controller n64 with this game the first time round I too I was keen to play this, and having done the first 2 levels last night - it’s a brilliant bit of nostalgia and ticked all the right boxes for me. Great fun and not to be taken too seriously.
Why gamepass? Because it’s about £100 for 3 years of gaming if you do it the right way, and it allows me to play flight sim, forzas, and many other aaa titles on my series s without having to shell out anymore money. Also, Starfield

Gonna have to say I really enjoyed my couple of hours with it last night too: Yes it's the same game in high-res, but that was exactly what I was expecting and wanted tbh. The auto-aim that the N64 needed is still there and it still feels perfect. The whole thing was never going to be as fancy as some people want (and I would like to see a fancier one someday) because of the licences, but the fact we've got it at all is a miracle. Played perfect on the Series X too, can't wait to get a few mates round for some proper old-school co-op fun once I've unlocked some more bits

There was another thread posted about this back in Autumn, you can also get it if you buy the digital version of Rare Replay.

Downloaded it, had a blast to be fair, even better was the fact there was a deal on the store to get GPU for £1 for the first month so will cancel beforehand.
Was about to have 2 player with the boy however the 2nd controller needed batteries, didn’t have a single AA battery spare or that I could steal from another device, would have to buy the recharge adapter thing if Xbox was my main console, haven’t needed batteries for my gaming since my gameboy
