Hogwarts Legacy

Has anyone else pre-ordered this? The 'deluxe edition' is released next Tuesday and the 'standard edition' goes live next Friday. I've ordered it for my wife, who absolutely loves all things Harry Potter. She's pretty excited! I'm not that keen on Harry Potter myself, but I do love a good RPG/open world game. From watching one of the trailers, it reminds me somewhat of Skyrim ... Could be interesting!

I’m looking forward to this and everything they’ve shown so far looks great but think I’ll wait to see how it actually turns out.
The main thing that’s putting a bit of doubt in my mind is the developer who have never released an open world RPG before…
But then you have developers who have released that sort of game before and still screw it up or become very lazy (don't you Ubisoft). The main thing that’s putting a bit of doubt in my mind is the developer who have never released an open world RPG before…
Had a super quick dabble this morning - still in the intro sequence but liking it so far. It looks great although I wish I could have a wider FoV / character a little further away from the camera.
Reading a couple of reviews it feels like a solid RPG with a good story line but bloated in the open-world. I never really got into HP but have watched the movies so I'm not especially wedded to the world. I like how my character looks on screen so the creator is decent.
I particular liked the cart in the goblin bank - not sure if that's from the movies or an original creation but the way it went down the rails was pleasing to watch!
Looking forward to getting into it later this evening

Why is there a one X and series X version
With separate release dates isn't it just the usual empty disk with it all being download?
I'm no expert, but I believe the game is native to the newer consoles, with a compatible version being made available for older systems - and the Nintendo Switch. I've installed the Series X version from disc, which was around 38GB. I'm now downloading a 64GB patch. Almost done, so will be able to play in the next hour! With separate release dates isn't it just the usual empty disk with it all being download?

been watching xqc play it, looks as boring as ditch water Its a large open world game but it has a very linear quest with side quests so not open at all IMO, you cant really bumble around doing your own thing.
The acting and animation of the story feels utterly wooden to me, I would skip it all, the story line doesn't engage me
Your typical fight involves hitting spells in combos to do 'actual damage' this has nothing to do with canon the combinations are mostly illogical, you end up spamming buttons 1000s of times on boss fights
The worst for me is that its a SOULs game, a genre I hate with a passion, die 100 times on each boss until you master the telegraph system ZZZZZZzzzzzz with a reset on each death ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz your millage may vary
xQc completing it, contains massive spoilers

First paragraph: sounds good, open world has become a curse of bloated design. Games need more structure than most open world games can provide and the diminishing returns for recent open world games shows this. Second paragraph: filtered.
Got the "Digital Deluxe" edition - mainly for the 72 hour early access as my OH had just finished the game she was playing and had expressed a keen interest to play this.
By happenstance I finished the game I was playing last night so thought I'd give it a whirl. I'm only an hour or so in - I've done the intro section, sorting ceremony and woken up for the first day at school.
First impressions are that it's probably going to be pretty enjoyable, and oh boy is it pretty!. I'm playing on the XSX and I highly recommend turning RTX on, annoyingly just selecting "Fidelity" in the initial settings doesn't do it - you have to go into the settings menu in game and only then you can select "Fidelity with Ray Tracing" (for reasons known only to the devs this then requires you to actually reboot the console for the change to take effect!).
I'm sure RTX probably lowers the FPS, which if you're one of the people who claim anything a whisker below 60fps is "unplayable" means it isn't for you. But from what I've played so far the hit is worth it IMO.

I'm about 10 hours into the game - and I'm really enjoying it! I'm not a fan of Harry Potter, but the overall gameplay reminds me of Skyrim, albeit with better combat mechanics! It's very immersive. The graphics, music and sound effects are fantastic. I was genuinely surprised at how explorable the inside of Hogwarts castle is! You could spend a fair few hours just exploring and finding collectables ...
The first 3-4 hours or so feel a bit like a tutorial, although not necessarily a bad thing. The game introduces you to the castle, then the grounds, then the nearest town. You're not just thrown into an open world, like Fallout 3.
Also, 'standard' difficulty is the third most difficult option. You can change the difficulty to the most easy setting, which states is designed for players who want to follow the story and not struggle with battles

It's a bit tricky with so many spells and only a few buttons. There is an option to upgrade your 'talents', allowing you to interchange between multiple spells quickly. You can spam the basic cast, but then you have to hold right trigger to activate more powerful spells, as well as release the trigger and press another button to protect yourself, or throw objects. You can't spam powerful spells. I'm finding the combat mechanics really enjoyable, to be honest! Bought my copy today, speaking a friend about it on twitter, got a reply that's a big picture of text saying what happens at the end. I don't mind that much as will be ages till i finish so ill forget by then.
There's a lot of this going about from idiots online believing that buying this game equals you think Trans people deserve to not exist because of JK Rowling. She's got different views on women's rights, that doesnt mean she thinks trans people shouldn't exist, but apparently she's just to the left of Hitler, and anyone buying this game is basically a Himmler.
Its all so stupid.
