My son would like more Pokemon cards for his 10th birthday, amongst other things. So far he has a beginner set which gave him a couple of decks and the board etc. Since he has also used his pocket money to buy extra packs and is able to build his own decks and play against me.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a decent box set to buy him? Buying lots of small packs seems a little anti climatic for a birthday.

Thanks

Mine loves the cards but doesn’t play. Why don’t you find out what his favourite Pokémon is and get him a rare version of the card?

My 7yo tried to explain how to play Pokemon to me at the weekend and I was utterly bewildered.

I much prefer it when he delights in thrashing me at Uno, at least I understand that!

My 9 year old loves collecting the cards. We’ve had a blast opening up entire booster boxes and pick up the odd tin when out and about.

Asda’s normally has a small selection, however I’ve found Smyth’s to be probably one of the better places to see a wide array of sets. Ignore the eBay scalpers as most of the time you end up paying more.

Also download the Pokellector app as it gives you pretty current prices on cards that you pull. smile

Edit to add - Elite trainer boxes are a good cost effective way of starting out also.

My son is a collector too!

We order Cloud Card sets of 50 via Amazon, seems to be the cheapest option.

For Christmas he had the “Arceus Pokémon Spring Collector Chest 2022”. Apparently it’s good and includes legendary cards etc

I haven’t a clue about it but just get hints on what’s a good buy hehe

If you have a Game store (sometimes in Sports Direct), accidentally trawl your son through the Pokémon aisles and see what makes him as excited as an anime characterhehe

What a pointless comment.

Suppose so except it can get expensive if you end up buying the ones you want rather than relying on luck to get them or if you take the theme to heart and have to catch them all then it's an expensive Hobby
