Fallout 4 lets you give them jobs at any settlements you control.
I was thinking more along the lines of being able to do side quests that the player would otherwise have to do - give the NPC some of your weapons, send them off and then have some way of deciding whether they were successful or not.Monty Python said:

Oh the joys of B Spec in GT games.
I remember once leaving my PS2 or 3 Bspec driver doing a 24 hour race at Le Mans or somewhere, I came in from work and he was just sat in the guardrail after 6 hours spinning his wheels.
Minolta Toyota 88C-V round El Capitan. That was a proper credit generator!I remember once leaving my PS2 or 3 Bspec driver doing a 24 hour race at Le Mans or somewhere, I came in from work and he was just sat in the guardrail after 6 hours spinning his wheels.
Perhaps not quite what you mean but Chernobylite you have say 5 mission options for a day and you can choose which one you do and which you set for your companions. Each companion is better at some things that others so the percentage of success changes depending on the type of mission.
On No Mans Sky you can buld a fleet of freighters and send them all over the galaxy to collect resources.
Although (especially if its a less experienced crew), the freighter can suffer damage on a expedition which opens an anoyong mini game, where you have to clamber all over there ship finding the components that need repair.
