Haven't seen a thread on this yet so here goes - https://youtu.be/aM_gzfAMdNs?si=WQN2X3jwBV-CUXZP

Early days yet so not much detail but what is in that video suggests this goes beyond slapping a couple of new lighting effects into an old game and calling it ray-traced. Might be a good reason to play through HL2 again smile

The Portal RTX version was really impressive.

And the Half Life 2 VR mod made for a fantastic looking VR game even by modern standards (obv not as good as Alyx but still good), so the omens are promising.

Still remember playing HL2 twenty years back on a 3DFX Voodoo 5 which was a few years old at the time and the graphics still looked great, wonder if it will work ok on the Steam Deck?

Played through this on PC when it was released, on Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Nvidia Shield, a gaming laptop and most recently, Steam Deck. Completed it so many times, multiple times on some devices, brilliant game, hoping the RTX runs on Steam Deck at 60FPS!

That is a serious amount of work, but of all remakes, this is the only one I would buy, perhaps the best game I have ever played on PC until this day.

It's free if you already own Half Life 2.

Nice! I bought it again in lockdown, after having it what feels like 25 years ago!!

When it was released I was not a huge gamer, mainly driving games. Myt friend however was a proper gamer, and I met him coming back from town with the box in his hand!

That was about 2 in the afternoon, 2 am we were still playing it, he even let me play as he was having RSI!

It was and still is the best thing I have ever played, especially when you consider when it came out, nothing has matched that sound, that setting, that atmosphere.

Just downloading the RTX (80GB) available, HL2 last night was just 9GB.

It now downloading 35GB, I wonder if the 80GB I initially saw was just the text for the complete RTX HL2 and the demo with Ravenholm and Nova Prospekt is 35GB.

Anyone tried to install on the Steamdeck?

Got the email alert saying this is now available but when I search the store on Steamdeck I can't see it?

I've got HL2 installed but no updates show as available, last one on the game settings page is February 11th.

Can you log in to the website on a PC via a browser, then search for the RTX version, add it to your library then look on your Steamdeck to see if it's there?

I played it years ago, but not on Steam, so it will be long gone.

But, HL-2 is £1.70 right now. Or if you buy it in a bundle, it's £1.67 (well, for me anyway).

I've just downloaded it : 124GB Steam tells me it downloaded. And yet, the installed files are 41GB.

FWIW I've just installed it on the Steam Deck and it says 41GB though the download size initially said 80GB .

Is it just a few modules from the game or should you start at the SP campaign? I seem to have a couple of options neither of which make any sense (but its fun throwing gass bottles and radiators around with Ray Tracing turned on)
