PS5 Pricing - Black Friday

Morning all . . .

I have a work colleague who will be purchasing a PS5 for her son & is wondering whether there are likely to be any discounts around Black Friday? More than likely the purchase will be from John Lewis.

I'm not a console gamer so unaware whether the big boy consoles get discounted at this time of year. . .

There is a new slim PS5 coming soon so they may start to lower prices on the old models soon.

Sony today have said that they’ve fixed the supply issues for the components so there’s no longer any restrictions on availability. This has led to speculation there will be Black Friday deals.

So, worth hanging on that long to see, I would say.

PS5’s everywhere now, but I wouldn’t be certain of that being the case a month from now with Christmas coming up.

Having purchased the disc version, about 2 months after initial release, I would save my money and go for the Digital Version if buying again.

As I'm not sure what I would use the drive for again. In fact, I'm not even sure what it's used for now anyway...!???

With the drive you can buy games 2nd hand for £20, rather than 3 times that from the PS store

Works for me. I'm the kind of gamer that plays one game and completes it back to back (or has a multiplayer for a long time) so its much more cost effective as physical media has a residual value unlike digital which is gone. I'll recuperate up to 60% even after ebay and paypal fees for something like Spiderman 2 if I complete it within a few weeks.

Buy ps4 versions cheap on disc and get free ps5 upgrades. Ive done this on a few games like skyrim, uncharted 4, borderlands 3 ,witcher 3 etc . No brainer for me.

Unless you only ever buy 5 games the disc version makes the most sense as you'll end up spending less on buying them than the difference between the two versions.

If you buy the disc version and then only buy digital copies of games then that's kind of on you, really.

Unless you only ever buy 5 games the disc version makes the most sense as you'll end up spending less on buying them than the difference between the two versions.

If you buy the disc version and then only buy digital copies of games then that's kind of on you, really.

The disc version acts as a UHD-Blu Ray player, which is a nice bonus if you are into buying films and have a 4k TV.

This is partly the reason I have stuck with Playstation consoles over the years.

PS2 - Became my backup DVD player.
PS3 - Became my first Bluray player
PS4 - Is still my only Bluray player

But now I'm thinking of getting a PS5 for the UHD 4K disc drive as I've had a 4K Bravia TV for a while now.

Can the new PS5 play PS4 disc games?

Yes - I play tonnes of PS4 games on my PS5. I have found no compatability issues to date. I seem to recall the PS5 is claimed to be compatible with 99% of PS4 games. And for avoidance of doubt, I am playing both physical disc based PS4 games on my PS5 and PS4 digital games I own via PSN.
