PC Game recommendations please....
Discussion
I know, I know its an incredibly far ranging question.... I'll try and whittle it down.
First off, I built a shiny new rig that's an absolute powerhouse compared to my old one. However the last "new" game I bought was 2017 (Dawn of War III) and now I'm like "So what new game should I get to try out the new rig?"
And at that point I was kind of stumped.
My recent gaming has been mostly retro (Supreme Commander, MW3 (Survival mode), Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak and Battletech)
I'm also looking at titles that are great games but stretch the GPU a bit to see what I've been missing out on all these years.
Be interested in hearing your recommendations!

Obviously something like cyberpunk will stretch your GPU possibly...
Anything with RTX? Control, alan wake 2 if you haven't tried them?
A lot of the reviews I'd seen about Cyberpunk have made it come across as a game that was released way too early. I'll look into Alan Wake 2 though.Anything with RTX? Control, alan wake 2 if you haven't tried them?

Cyberpunk (plus Phantom Liberty DLC) is a fantastic game.Thank you for the recommendations.

It was released too early 5 years ago yes, but those reviews you've read don't reflect how the game is now - it's considered somewhat an example of a spectacular comeback in gaming terms.
I would suggest you give it a proper look, as you'd be missing out hugely if that's the type of game you'd usually enjoy.
What GPU do you have, and what resolution do you want to run at to 'challenge' the GPU?
For example a 5090 at 1080p will just sit there quietly whilst your CPU screams. A 5060 at 4K will melt!
Along with the other examples mentioned, Black Myth: Wukong, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Dying Light 2 are ones that will stress any GPU if you turn everything up to 11...but so are almost any game using Unreal Engine 5.
Not forgetting that MSFS 2024 will stress both CPU & GPU at higher quality settings/FPS.

That might run Crysis!More seriously, Cyberpunk is a decent game now. Neither as awful as when it came out, nor as great as some people suggest. With that you could probably get a decent frame rate a 4K - my 4070ti struggles a bit even with DLSS.
I really wish I could play Subnautica again for the first time, it really is one of the most atmospheric games ever. The follow up (sub zero) couldn't touch it, I've had several runs and just given up. Looks like subnautica 2 will be released on EA soon, sadly it looks like a name cash in and hopping on board the rust style multiplayer craft survival.
Another vote for Control, Stray held my attention as well.
I've played Cyberpunk through 3 times, once with the added DLC, no complaints from me (apart from the fact I followed my heart not my brain and got the sh*t DLC ending) and I was an early adopter.
Any Far Cry, although it peaked at 5 for me.
Two out of the three in my house are counting down the days til Death Stranding 2 on the 26th, but the PC port has not been announced yet.
Witcher 3, The Stanley Parable, Still Wakes the Deep.
I had waaaay too much fun playing Crime Scene Cleaner and A Game About Digging a Hole, bit left field but cheap and shortish.

Latest release of Grand Theft Auto 5 looks great at 4k with a powerful PC. You can just drive around and take in the sights, get into random police chases or follow the story or all of the above.
Witcher 3 as mentioned looks great.
I got bored with Cyberpunk but it did have some cracking visuals.
I don't really play games for their graphics even with a high end PC. Yeah it's fun to see what is possible but I get bored and would prefer to play dark souls 1 with old fashioned graphics over any far cry game ever, not matter how impressive the scenary.
Cheers

To be honest, its a bit bewildering when you go "Get a new game". Totally agree, gameplay is king. The tech demo for Witcher IV looks pretty awesome though!Witcher 3 as mentioned looks great.

PowerWash Simulator looks great at 120fps... Also probably my favourite game of all time.
Favourite game of all time? Now that sounds like an excellent thread title!Think for me it would have to be a top five in no order.
Eve Online - I had to stop as it was burning so much of my time. at one point it felt like another "job" on top of my day job. Social aspect of it has never been matched IMHO.
C&C Generals - No idea why this captured me so hard, maybe it was the times playing it with friends on my LAN or the quotes? "AK47's for everyone!" (Need to get that as a ring tone)
Total Annihilation - Just a classic game, again used to play it on the LAN with a mate, fun times
Black Ops II - First time online shooter gaming, was brilliant at the time but the CoD community in later games became pretty toxic
Dawn of War - 40k - Just a brilliant game, one of my all time faves

Cyberpunk defo looks the part but I don't think the rest of the game stands up imo. Good story stuff, Red Dead Redemption 2 - Ghost of Tsushima - Horizon Zero Dawn would be my recommendation and on your PC will be amazing, GoT looks incredible on mine and I only have a 4070ti.
