Looking for some advice on what console to upgrade to next.

Current setup:
I’ve got an Xbox One with Game Pass Ultimate running until March 2027. I mainly play Forza Horizon 5 and Forza Motorsport 7, and the kids use loads of the Game pass ultimate games, also have an external 2TB drive for the Xbox .

We also have a PS4 Pro in the games room, but the kids only use it for LEGO games and we don’t have PS Plus on it.

The issue is that I won’t be able to play Forza Horizon 6 on my current Xbox, and I’ll definitely want GTA 6 when it comes out.

So I’m trying to decide whether to stick with Xbox and get a Series X, or whether it’s worth looking at a PS5 Pro instead. Anyone been through the same decision or have thoughts on which makes more sense?

Are either Sony or MS due to release a new console without the next 12 months

I wouldn't worry about next-gen. The PS6 is waaaay off, 2029 or 2030 if recent rumours are to be believed. Microsoft next console (again, rumoured) will be fixed-spec PC, probably in 2028.

Difficult to recommend the XBox at the moment. Microsoft are in a bit of a mess and identity crisis, with many of their games due to come out on the PS5 anyway. Unless you're really bothered about their recently announced exclusives, of which there are only 2, then PS5 seems to have the better future ahead of it.

Only reason to stick to XBox is if you (or your kids) have friends who already use and play on that platform. And if you've got a gaming PC, there's some overlap there too.

Doesn't feel like much difference between them to be honest, the PS controller's haptic feedback is really nice but I prefer the shape of the Xbox one. PS has more exclusive games but Xbox has game pas, better UI, online and quick resume is handy as well. Also Xbox is about to go up in price yet again so may want to decide soon

From a cost perspective the Xbox series x is around £500 and the ps5 is around £500 so very similarly priced, however the ps5 pro is around £750 so out my budget.

It's going up by $100 so likely £100 in the UK? Pretty mad for hardware that is over half a decade old!!

Looking on the Costco app they don't seem to do Xbox, the 5 Pro is £750.

currys have 20% of their refurbed PS5s atm, the pro i bought was brand new with a slight mark on the box

Memory prices are 4x since last year. Apple similarly have raised the prices of the MacBooks and iPads.
