Have you sorted the Ip configuration settings by giving it an IP address, gateway etc.

not done it on a 360 but i have on a original xbox.

There should be a section in the dashboard for network configuration.

You will have the option for ip settings, go into there and select manuel settings.

Enter an address that matches with the router.

most are 192.168.0.1 so if you set the xbox to 192.168.0.10 for example.
subnet set to 255.255.255.0 and
gateway to 192.168.0.1

leave the dns alone and then test the connection (there is anoption in the dashboard to test.

See how you go from there.

(the network settings should be the same as your PC apart from the last number of the IP address which must be different)

Hope that helps.

(ps remember this is settings for the original xbox not the 360 so hopefully they ahould have similar set ups.)

Also try the xbox website as there are instructions for setting up the 360 which ill try and find for you

I was having trouble with my router, but just got it sorted yesterday.
On the dashboard, if you go to the right-most screen you should see an option for testing your xbox live connection. If you run this it will go through a series of tests and should tell you where the problem lies (i.e. ip adress, DNS server etc etc). My problem was something called MTU. I think the xbox 360 demands a certain transfer rate.

To fix mine I had to upgrade the software on my router. All a bit of a pain but didn't cost me anything but time..

best of luck

Matt

Have you run the xbox live connection check on your xbox yet? What did it say?

Can you post the make/model of your router?

I had big problems getting my xbox 360 on the network.

It could connect to live but not to the upstairs pc with my mp3 collection.

There is a help guide on xbox.com http://forums.xbox.com/1076872/ShowPost.aspx

I followed this and it did work. It is a bit painful with lots of restarting but it DOES work.

Tim.

Check that you have got DHCP enabled properly on your router setup page. You'll need to use a big enough ip range to accomodate then number of devices you have connected (i.e. pc, laptop, xbox etc...). The router need to be able to give a unique ip address to each device

I was assuming that the problem was that your xbox isn't being assigned an ip address by the router (I wonder if you can see the xbox from your pc?), but maybe it's something to do with your internet provider not playing nicely with MS. Hmmmmmm. I still think the former is more likely than the latter.
Have you looked at the 'more info' for the ip address on the xbox ? What does it say?

im not sure about routers... I think the standard cable works. I dont have a router (just a network plug on the back of my PC) and plugged it directly into that, but had to buy a cross-wired cable to get it to work.

Are you running any encryption on your wireless networ like WEp or MAC filtering?

If you are then that may be your problem. I've no idea how the xbox wireless dongle works...does it allow you to set WEP keys and the such like or has everything been plug and play so far?
