Does anyone know the specs of the next generation playstation?
I don't have a games console of any kind at the mo, but have just bought a nice Toshiba LCD which is HD ready and has a scart for the XBox apparently. That coupled with seeing the ad for Project Gotham Racing recently has tempted me into buying one.

Is the PS3 more powerfull/better and worth hanging out for, or is the 360 the better option.

As always, thanks in advance PHers.

The PS3 is more powerfull according to Sony's over hyped and over exagerated press releases.

I'd go with a 360 personally.

i'd wait for the PS3....it's gonna kick the xbox's arse like the PS2 did to the original x box......and more games will be availible at a lower price

However it's not been released yet and nobody has played one.

Speculation is a release towards the end of this year in Japan, followed by US then urope launches. Its not too improbable that we wont see oficial PS3s in the UK until 2007.

The PS3 right now is incoming, but till then, get a 360

This is probably true but it's a matter of whther you want to wait 12 months or not. There is always something better coming along if you just wait a bit longer.

And the PS2 was deemed a "super computer" when it was released

Twelve months till the hardware appears, and cod alone knows how long until programmers work out how to get the best out of what, if I know Sony's designers, will be the most arcane and unfriendly system architecture their fiendish little minds could come up with.

okay. thats true, so go and get a PS2 for now at an unfeasibly cheap price as an entry into the cosole world...then get the PS3 if you think it'll be worth the upgrade...at least the games will be x-usable

IMHO the Xbox kicked the PS2's arse. halo and project gotham anyone? fantastic gameplay

however, I think that the PS3 will be better than the Xbox but when will it be released? spring 2007? why not get an Xbox360 now and the PS3 when it comes out?

why wait?

get both. The 360 is only £270. Ive got one, and graphically it shats all over the PC (currently) You would need a pc rig costing at least £1500 to even get close to its capabilities. Ive always been a PC gamer (Never thought much of the ps2 or xbos as graphics were too crap) and always will be, but the versatility, the connectivity and the power of the 360
has surprised me. Its amazing value for money and doesnt cost much more than a decent DVD player( which it is anyway) or an average amp.

Ive got it wirelessly linked to my pc and streaming music and photos works really well.
The XBox live system also works a dream, with virtually no lag experiences so far, while playing PGR3
against yanks.
For a real "next gen" experience, if you've got one download the EA Fight night 3 Demo. Controls seema little weird to start with but do persevere. Try you hardest to get a knockdown and just sit back and watch. Its awesome.

The only snag is that it really needs to be run on an HD plasma....a normal tv wont do it justice.
Or you could get the VGA cable and plug it into a pc monitor.

Until Halo 3 comes out the X Box360 is not worth getting in my opinion.

Once it does come out though you just have to get it.

I do wish you hadn't have wrote that, as I am now deeply regretting cancelling my 360 order!

Don't you need to use HDMI to take advantage of high def?

cant agree...have you sat down and played through PGR3 yet???

Its awesome and an absolute hoot online.

Its worth it just for this game. (its worth it just to park your cars in the stable courtyard and walk around them....

they look incredible.)

Also bear in mind you will (very soon) be able to play halo and halo 2 on it with updated sharper and smoother

graphics running at 1280 x 1024...with a free patch. There are qute a few games currently being worked on to ensure

the backward compatability.

No you dont.

at all.

In fact there isnt even an HDMI cable yet.

Currently the best connections are a component cable and the vga.

You dont technically even need a "HDready TV"

my mate has a 3 year old hitachi 42 plasma capable of running at 1024 by 1024. With the VGa cable his picture is almost as good as mine (ive got a new pioneer 436)

I will probably get it when I have the console, but driving games are not why I buy consoles, but FPS

And Halo was awesome enough on the now 'outdated' original X Box.

I bet there are allot of people thinking the same.

That's my plan, buy a PS2 for 120 quid with a game or two and get 12 months entertainment out of that, then invest in a PS3

If you were a real pistonhead-er you'd buy a console for this game, which has the best driving graphics I have ever seen....

My order is still awaiting dispatch, but it's coming, and I have a feeling I'm not going to regret it, and I will buy a PS3 when it comes out.....
