Well, I did buy it, hoping it would capture some of the original game's greatness, as has been said by the new US developers, but, I felt very disappointed playing it. It is slighlty better than AoD, but, because its a US developer now, the music is shite, (I don't want to hear banging techno rubbish, with the usual US guitar thrashing, I want an orchestra playing dramatic music, like the first game!!) Lara now runs and stops like a sprite in the developer's earlier game, Pandemonium, and, overall, I think the franchise is virtually dead!
perhaps I have been too spoilt since playing the first one (which I can still play, and still love), by games like HL2, Rome, Oblivion etc.
The game's OK, but since playing it once, I haven't busted a gut to play it again!

It's hardly next gen. But I really like it. Takes me back to the old days. Though not as far back I hasten to add as when I used to play Chuckie Egg on the Electron, now that was a game...

I was going to get it for the PSP.
I had a play of it on Sunday on the PS2. Thought it was ok, lots of traps and puzzels rather than gun-toting action - though the bike & train chase was more like that but with the interesting effect of a car managing to get displaced 30 feet into the air and not coming down again - these yanks have no idea how to program

Got it on order and just seen this thread. I really, really hope it's better than AOD...

The original game was designed by some lads in Derby/Chesterfield.....had the opportunity to meet them at a Porsche meet (Donington Park).....sound lads, gave us the rags to riches story and the initial buy-out.....Richard Hammond (listening intently)was there too.
Really great day......
Supes.
(Never played the game though!)

Actually, I feel that perhaps I was a little too harsh in my initial post. After playing it some more, it is very good, a LOT better in every way than AoD. I was initially not happy because I read before the game was released that the buttons would be customisable, they weren’t, you are given three pre defined choices, and as I always played Tomb raider with the buttons, not analogue, it was hard to get used to. Now, I am used to it, and it is more fluid and intuitive than AoD, and you don't have to get killed ad-nausium to discover the correct procedure to move on. It is a very good game, but I do miss (still!) the orchestral music that helped make the original so special, ‘of the time’ techno crap that will be old hat in sis months has no place in a classic game.

Thanks for the encouraging words Chris
I've played them all except the third. Loved most - but sadly, thought AOD was terrible
Waiting impatiently for the post...

Concur with most the the comments above, sound track is dissapointing, game play is smooth, I like the controls and am loving the nostalgic element of playing, if you enjoyed the originals (I did) then there's a good chance you will like this one
