Dont recall any HDMI cables in the Premium pack, tbh... You get a component video cable, which works very nicely, and outputs (according to my TV) at 1125i, which is prefectly sufficient for my needs.
There are, I think, rumours, of an HDMI interface when they put out the HDDVD accessory later.

Ooops. Show's how much I know but then I have only had my 'box a few weeks and I don't have a HDTV.

You need the Hi Def cable that comes with the premium pack (if you have the core, you need to buy it).
You cannot do hdmi as the 360 has no hdmi connection.
Then you need to make sure the cable, where it connects to the 360, is set to HD.
Then you need to go into the dashboard on the 360 and set it to HD here as well.

As I demonstrated my ignorance may I attempt a slight hijack and ask is the difference really 'night and day'?
I run my 360 on a good quality Sony widescreen that's only about 6 months old but I do find myself strangely drawn to getting a HD TV soley for the full-on experience.
But will I really notice it??

I now play my 360 on my 19" LCD monitor (you can also get the full HD experience by using the VGA cable).
The difference from RGB to component on the original Xbox was no big deal at all. Composite to RGB was significant (sharper image), but RGB to component was marginal at best.
But the jump from standard TV res to HD gaming on the 360 (via component, HDMI or VGA) is simply phenomenal. You're probably wondering just how phenomenal, because we anoraks tend to exaggerate things don't we?
I'm am not exaggerating. The switch is worth every penny, as 95% of all 360 games are designed to make full use of HD resolution. The image isn't scaled from small to big like it is on the old Xbox - every pixel in HD resolution is rendered separately, and you make full use of the power of the graphics in the console.
If you haven't gone HD on your 360, by God you're missing out big time.

Will you notice it?
Here's a simple test you can perform on your computer. First, set your resolution to 640x480. Then change it to the native resolution. See a diffference?

I think I'll start off with a set-up like yours and give it a go on a monitor as I need a new one anyhow so if I get 19" TFT that should do for a while- don't think I can justify a new TV just yet.
But, I already have a 19" DELL CRT monitor- did the cable come with my premium back to connect it up? Just that I could give it a go whilst the missus watches BB later if so...

No you have to buy it. But get yourself a knock-off (half the price of the Microsoft one and functions identically).

Why do you think this? It's still sending out the same analog signal as component, and it's still only displaying at 1080i or 720p.
I know its the same signal (YCrCb progressive) but VGA is higher resolution than the standard DTV modes.
The jump from standard to HD is amazing.
The grass and sand in Tiger Woods, the sunsets in GRAW, the backgrounds in PGR3, the detail in COD2......it all just comes alive
Get the optical cable for the sound as well and you have gaming heaven
Get PGR3 on, get the AMV8, go to outside car view and crank the sound up

what do you mean by 'RGB' and 'component'? Because component means just that - the signal split up into Red Green and Blue. VGA is no better than component/HD, I don't know but it might even be worse? Component really is and always has been THE way to connect something for optimum quality. It's part of the specification required for a TV to be called 'HD Ready'. The 360 component cable is a meaty, quality item that reflects that too IMO.
Also looking at the internals of your TV, since VGA is just for connecting a PC (not really that big a deal with a TV) but component is the uber connection for all sources, it's possible the cost/effort in bulding and designing the TV is more likely to have been applied to the component side of things rather than VGA.
HDMI is just DVI with sound - it's a digital connection but still not really better than analogue Component.
