I downloaded the demo on the recommendations of PH people and while the graphics are nice the handling seems a but dull and un-involving compared to the fidgety nature of GTL. It seems very difficult to unsettle the car with changes if direction, and when it does let go it just kind of lumbers to a stand still. Is the handling in rFactor not as accomplished as GTL or is it just that the green Demo car is a bit dull? Love the shaky dash though

You're going on the demo only of one car when there are many different mods and cars available. I haven't touched GTL in 2 months since getting rfactor, so you can guess what I think of it

If you've driven GPL and love the handling of it then you'll like the 1979 mod, the same team are planning on doing all years of F1 from 1950 to the present day. I've seen screen shots for 1986, 1950's and 1992 cars so far

Plus the GTL cars are old GT cars on soft suspension, I don't know which basic car you get in the demo but if it's one of the hatchbacks then it is basic but handles drives like a little modern racing hatchback. If you want old GT's and racing cars on rFactor you're going to have a wide choice :-

Thanks, that's kind of what I was hoping people would say hehe

BTW the green demo car looks a bit like the previous generation Mustang, it's rear wheel drive (though it just understeers rolleyes), doesn't seem to have much power but sounds quite nice

BTW what's the online play like for rFactor? Are there as many servers (UK, European) as GTL? Are they as well populated? Is there one or two mods which everyone plays?

Thanks.

Bare in mind this is only the top section of the in game server list and daytime for most so little action. You can see how many servers there are on this page and also by the size of the vertical scroll bar being small. Lots of differen mods being played, league things will always be best though just like any other game. Probably a bad screenshot as it's caught a few passworded league servers, but you get the idea.

My Wife purchased it for me last night

The 79 F1 cars are absolutely awesome (especially if you like facing where you've just been hehe )
Just downloaded the Macca F1 mod and that is pretty good too.

I haven't had chance to try it online yet but from what I hear it's very good. If so, maybe it's time we bade a farewell to the simbin games for the PH league and transferred to RFactor.

My rFactor folder is already up to 7GB in size.....

You have to get the V8 Buggys take them on the Lienz Hill climb course and off road tracks. I can also recommend the Karts, GP2, CDTP F1 2005 and the Porsche Supercup cars.

The only problem I can see with rFactor is there is so much choice we will spend all our time deciding what to play and may never get round to actually racing hehe

If you want some good rFactor fun and can commit to a league take a look at www.funingaming.com/Bulldogs/rFactor-ChampSeries/BD-VI/index.html

I've just purchased it, and am downloading as we speak.

I will make sure that the server has it uploaded to as well, but as Yogi says, we'll spend ages arguing over what to play, so we need to decide.

V8 Buggies sound like a laugh to me

The Porsche Carrera Cup 1.2 mod is excellent, as is the F3Euro mod.

Had another play on the demo last night. I distinctly remmember turning off all those driving aids in the setup the other day... but while i was playing last night a random key stoke brought up a list of all the help that was enabled. Turned everthing off appart from the auto clutch and WOW! Want power oversteer? Noooo problem party

I thought the porsche carrera cup was very dodgy physics wise - I'd heard they are basically modelled in a totally wrong way to make the physics feel how they "should" rather than being modelled to the specifications of a real 911.
