Anyone played "Thief : Deadly Shadows"?
Discussion
Just received it as part of the free game system with my Gainward graphics card, if you go to www.gainwardgamingzone.com you too can get a free game or two, just pay the P&P (I didn't have to pay the P&P as I had a use once code). Normally have 8, changing content. Currently have Hitman, Thief, Splinter Call, Snowblind and others.
Anyway back to Thief, first time I have ever played a 1st person perspective game like this one, instead of running about with a gun you have arrows, knives and things and get around using stealth, shadows, avoiding town guards to complete tasks. What you steal you sell or pass onto clients for further tasks or cash. Graphics are really good and the gamepley is actually very absorbing as you try to work out how to get to your goal using the cover of shadows, pickign locks, turning off lamps, killing as well or distracting others.
Anyone else got it, tried it?

I played the first Thief game, was a nice break from the norm but never did finish it.
Much like Splinter Cell, i never finished that either!
Thief was quite refreshing though and the A.I seemed superb.
It really got your heart going as you heard guards coughing, whistling and humming as they walked past you only inches away from your hiding spot.

Yup! I first played it on my previous PC when the game came out, and then again when I got a decent machine with a good video card. It is far from perfect with its annoying zone loading times and lack of real freedom in the city, but it does have *the* most scary level in any computer game.

The annoying loading reminds me of Deus Ex 2, both use the same engine. That was a good game, ruined by small areas and long load times.
On another of the levels, you have to creep around a captain's mansion on an island. In one of the rooms, the family are having a meal, and of course you shoot some of the lights out. I had the most intense feeling that something was lurking in the shadows, intent on harm. It took me a few moments to realise that person was *me*. I take my virtual hat off to the designers, because it can really get inside your head. Far better than any horror film I have seen. The illumination and texture mapping engines are excellent, I just hope other games take note and build it into a bigger RPG engine.
