Xbox360 and HD-DVD

But can my XBox360 play HD DVD's in HD format through the Component input?

if you buy the additional HD DVD drive you will be able to watch HD DVD's through the conponent output, is this what you mean fidg?

Unfortunately not. The XBOX doesn't upscale standard DVDs, so it will be no better than any other DVD player running over component connections.

I suspect though that buying an HDDVD drive when available will be the cheapest way to get high def DVD output.

It's a shame it doesn't upscale - saying that I paid nearly £180 for a fancy upscaling DVD player so at least I know my money wasn't wasted!

Can you even get HDDVD content in the UK at the moment anyway? I've not seen it available anywhere.

No it cannot play hd dvd's. It is only a standard dvd drive.

However, there are rumours of an add on drive which will allow hd-dvd's to be played on the 360 to counter the PS3's bluray drive.

The 360 will upscale dvd's to whatever res the 360 is set to output at but only over VGA.

I still use my Samsung HD-850 for video as the 360 is really too noisy for quiet dvd's.

So the x-box 360 is £275 for the hdd version plus £130?
Yet the ps3 gets panned for being £425 for the same set up?

Difference is you can be playing games on the xbox for £200, it gives you the choice, and lets you split it over 2 purchases too. (btw there may be bundled deals I dont know).

Sony forces you to stump up for both a HD movie player and a games console.

BTW the Xbox & HD drive is about £70 cheaper than the Tosh HD dvd player, which is about half the cost of a stand alone BR player.
