Still playing GTR2 (and GTL!) so won't be buying but... is this likely to be good? Modern saloon cars, Simbin physics..?

You've not tried the demo then?

Simbin have produced 4 games in 2 years. Expect Race 2 out next year, or better still wait another year for Race 3.

(I won't be buying it)

Ok, so I relented, but only for the Macau track. So what do I think of it?

It only runs in Dx9 mode so if your PC struggles with rFactor, GTL GTR2 in Dx7 or Dx8 modes forget this. For a game that's using an older Gmotor version than rFactor this is woeful, poorly executed not even runing it at max graphics (running it on medium) it made my Gfx card temp jump over 20 degrees causing it to go on a go slow. this has never happened with GTR2 or rFactor both run at higher graphics levels. It's also very wierd in places too like using rear view instead of a clear view back you actually see part of the roll cage, but no bodywork. It's like part of the car is missing and you can't make changes to the PLR to make things run better (like the FFB which just feels weak even at 100%) because it's encoded. It just doesn't feel finished, rushed out for Christmas maybe. I won't hold back as a driving experience compared to the rest of the usual suspects, it's the biggest pile of poo since that elephant made an appearance on Blue Peter.

The ETCC mod for rFactor is so much better.

Updated comments above after trying it a bit more. I think it'll be the quickest game to be uninstalled on my system, ever. I'd take it back to the shops but I bought mine via Steam. Can you re-upload a game back to where it came from

One saving grace is the very nice BMW M3 E30 model very nice to look at, just don't drive it.
