Not really. I like it.
People standing around, despreatly hoping they'll get a peice of plastic, silicon and metal on the day of release. Someone, with a bit of cunning, sets up a paypal account and says if you donnate $10 and the final amount is enough... he'll go and queue up, and then beat the living day lights out of it on camera.
He, or someone else, did the exact same thing on the day the 360 came out.

Of course the only platform that matters is the PC. All consoles are just pretenders to the throne, nothing can outperform a high end PC both in terms of graphics or sheer processing power. If you want to play with you toys then I have a Speak n' Spell in the loft... it'll be just like using a games console.

But seriously, Cell is apparently a complete swine to program for. Give devs 8 months to work out the kinks in their 3D engines and then lets compare the 360 now (8 months in) with the PS3. I'd wager they'll be pretty close.

And what was the 360 like when it came out? I'd be willing to be the games now are better than the release ones. PS3 will be the same.

Why will the games be 18 months old?
To be honest I just want something more reilable than an Xbox.
I think CM means the 360 will 18 months old by the time we can buy the UK sanctioned PS3.
In 18 months time, the PS3 will likely be where the 360 is now, which itself will have moved on (extracting the maximum from it) by then.
So, in a linear world, the PS3 games will always be playing catch-up - is the view being expressed.

Perhaps they will have evenly matched performance in a year (though at present I think the XBox360 is superior), but will they have the same price?
If it wasn't for the brand recognition of the Sony & Playstation brands I think they would really struggle in thie phase of the console wars.
Personally I am buying myself an XBox360 this christmas, and gears of war, and buying the HD-DVD add on soon afterwards.
