I suspect this has been done with some nod from Sony to get a GT game out for Xmas.
In other words, you can expect the developers will be handsomely rewarded for making it a freebie to satiate PS3 owners, or more so, to persuade more people to buy the console NOW that there's something worth playing on it.

I'll agree with that. I wasn't too interested in picking up a PS3 but this has sparked off some enthusiasm for a purchase. Anyway, living in Japan, I'll do my best to translate that webpage (my Japanese is in no way perfect but I get the gist of it) In other words, you can expect the developers will be handsomely rewarded for making it a freebie to satiate PS3 owners, or more so, to persuade more people to buy the console NOW that there's something worth playing on it.

The rumour also is that it will only be available in Japan.....
Surely they're not THAT stupid?!?
Check this out :

Earlier it said it would be a Japan only release. They have changed the wording slightly.
So, basically they're scrapping the lot and going back to the drawing board for this new Race/life Simulator? link said:
"The Gran Turismo series will change its core principles," Polyphony Digital head Kazunori Yamauchi said about the next installment in the series, which was not given any kind of release window. As for what direction Yamauchi is taking with the series, Sony has only said it "will be a fully realized Online Car Life Simulation."
Sounds like a move to counter Test Drive Unlimited in terms of it's freedom? Whilst that sounds interesting it's got to mean that it won't be availabe for at least another year - at best?
Sony -
ing up the PS3 day by day! Phil
