I could use some advice as I'm buying my daughters Christmas present.

She wants a Ninendo DS. There appear to be loads of games/simulations available - would you know if two 'Nintendogs' games (such as Dalmation and Labrador) are too similar to be enjoyable? In other words are they identical games but just different dogs?

This is such a weird thing to ask - however there's bound to be someone here who knows the answer.

Apologies and thanks!

You want to get the DS Lite. It has better battery life, better screen and is a great little unit. Its also a little smaller (but the screens are still the same size as the first version)

Use play.com:
http://play.com/Games/DS/RTS/3-/10259

I ordered mine at 09:00 ish about 3 weeks ago and it was with me the next day. They should have them in stock. if not then try amazon or your highstreet as they will all be 99 english pounds.

Just make sure you get the right color: Think they do black and white at the moment

Just get 'Nintendogs' (anyone of them) and then 'animal crossing' and you will not see her for the whole Xmas period

And pink.

The Nintendogs games are all basically the same, so you only need one.

Not a problem, hope she likes it.

I can also recommend getting Advanced Wars 2 for yourself. Amazing strategy game and if you are on a business trip, away from home or just need to kill an hour in the evening this is the daddy.

This is the only reason i got a DS!

I'll check that out too!

PH is an excellent resource of knowledge - so that's been really useful.

It's kind of weird having a 9 year old who needs 'stuff' - particularly when it's stuff I've never heard of. I guess it's all downhill from here.

Out of curiosity, how long does the battery last on the DS Lite? I'm seriously considering getting one of these too.

Never really measured how long the battery lasts... Its ages though, even if you're using its wireless networking lots.

The battery lasts absolutely ages. Many times longer than the PSP battery. I've been away for a week with mine and not had to worry about charging the battery, even after fairly heavy use.

nda - you dont need a battery. It is built it and it comes with a charger so dont fret!

The battery life is awesome and as mentioned above compared to the PSP its as if it is solar charged. The PSP is pants in comparison!

USP: Small, simple, fun gaming on the go

The games are not as intelligent as you will find on the PSP but they are very involving. It totally depends on what games you like.

Personally I only bough a DS for Advanced Wars the best strategy game ever, on any console. Check out www.ign.com for reviews. Most of the other games are too quirky for me as I would never play something like Mario or Sonic as it does not interest me. If I wanted to play Tiger Woods golf or Pro Evo I would but them for my PSP as its a much better system and you know that it will provide games with more depth. Also GT4 is meant to be coming out on it before long (2007??)

If you can stretch then get the PSP unless you like quirky fun pick-up-and-go computer games which you will find on the DS.

Read game reviews would be my best advice and try and play on each system,

Hoddo - I don't know who you are - but thanks!!

Pink DS Lite arrived this morning with the games you recommended. Holly (my 9 year old) will be delighted on Christmas day.

So thanks PH'ers, you're a great resource. There always seems to be someone who knows.

Remember to give it a charge a couple of days before Christmas.

And you may want to consider getting a screen protector - action on the touch-screen can get pretty lairy in some games. Mine is hardly three weeks old but the protector is already scratched!
