Command and Conquer Red Alert
Discussion
"Sooner or later time... vill tell."
Used to play it all the time on LAN's and on-line, could hold my own as well. To be honest I think every instalment after C&C:RA was a step backwards, the games got slower, required more micromanagement... sometimes you just want something fast and fun.
I've still got my Red Alert t-shirt somewhere and the music CD.

Another fan here.
Spent many hours playing it on the LAN when I served in the RN. It all used to turn out fairly badly though with a couple of fights breaking out from what I remember from people who were less than happy about loosing!
The new one is due out at some point.

Played it lots here too.
Started out on Dune 2, then C&C, red alert and a few others along the way.
I will never forget going coop with a friend against a PC opponent on a massive custom map
with the rules ini file edited.
The result (if it didn't lock up) were massive battles with constant attacks and the
computer would build bases half the size of the map haha.
We use to increase the range of the flamer turrets etc too and put the start money on billions
so you didn't have to worry about harvesting.
Good times!

Many a night was wasted on this. I hope they make a new version for the X360.
Have a read of this: www.ea.com/commandandconquer/news.jsp?id=14#
Looks like C&C3 is coming to the Xbox 360. Looks like I will be buying a 360 then.
How good are the controllers?

Same here, Dune2 was the first game of this genre i think... I remember those bloody sandworms that would eat your spice harvesters, sometimes leaving you totally economically shafted if you neglected to baby sit them.

Got a good gaming PC? It's coming out on PC-DVD as well and the one true RTS controller will be sufficient (i.e. keyboard and mouse).
Now, someone care to explain why their are three factions in this?

I think there were 3 in Tiberium Sun. Maybe they are once again trying to branch out, they really should not!
Stick to the old winning formula.
Does anyone know how to get my copy of Red Alert to run on windows XP SP2

DOSBox should do it for the DOS mode stuff, you might find flippy the compatibility mode to Win98 will do the job or at worse poke around google, someone is bound to have a patch out.
Alternatively track down a copy of the 10 year aniversary DVD which has ever C&C game released on it (from C&C to C&C:Generals), they've all been tinkered with to work in WinXP apparently.
Also, watching the video on the website is it me or has Kane become erm... chunky?

The original Command and Conquer games were fantastic but when they went 3D for Rengade it went downhill. I spend so much time playing Tiberian Sun & Red Alert 2 as a student!! It's a shame game manufacturers don't cater for people who want simple, addictive gameplay any longer, but prefer bling graphics and everything has to be in 3d with movable viewpoints whether it is appropriate or not...
Still at least the Wii seems to be based on gameplay rather than all out processing grunt - I'll have to take a closer look at that.
Right, I'm off to dig out my Red Alert discs for a quick game... see you all in 3 weeks!
