Xbox 360 Price
Discussion
Xbox 360 are...
£199 for one with no HDD and a wired controller or
£279 for one with a HDD and a wireless controller
If you can wait then sure wait till the PS3 is out and the price drops (even when MS say they won't drop the price)
If you can find one on ebay going cheap second hand sure pick it up but i would suspect most of them on there are new ones people who use ebay as a business are trying to flog

Surely this is not a bad thing as long as they have trustly worthy ratings and the price is right.
A recent financial report from Microsoft showed that it lost $800m on their "gaming" division (which is basically XBox). Makes you think about the true cost of the consoles. If they cant make a profit on the machines themselves at that price, when will they?
Still a bit pricey for mass market?

ps3 is going to cost between £450-£500 at retail!
and its not even as good as a 360
i own all 3 nextgen machines (
), although they are all "work related" i wouldn't ordinarily spend that much of my own money on so many game consoles..scorp said:

I know, its joke. Mind you, to put that into perspective though - the anticipated US price for the 20GB is just less than the XBox360 in the UK. So quite how many they expect to shift when its so massively more expensive, well I just dont know.
Yet again, these global companies seem to forget the exchange rate and make EVERYTHING more expensive for the UK. Why do we have to pay the most? Even the Euro prices are less than the UK. Feckers....

They haven't forgotten the exchange rate. They are charging what people will pay. They could double the price and on release day a line of fanboys would be seen outside the shops; in some respects its rather sad as the best way to get the price down would be for the initial batch of units to not sell.

Thats primarily what region locking is for, to enforce artificially high prices in markets stupid enough to pay them (e.g. europe).Bit more expensive but Gamestation have them at £299 with a load more goodies including a month's free live, 2 pads and 2 games (including Gears if you ask nicely)
The Live Gold package (to play games online) is usually £39.99 a year, but you can find original xbox games that come with a years subscription thrown in for £20 or so if you look around.

PS3 and sony dont charge for online play because they dont, actualy, run the sevice, from what I can see PS3's onine abilities are woefull and adhock.
Live is excelent, and MS provide a certain quality of service and consistency for online gaming. Look at the PC arena, yes you can game for free, but many still pay for hosted server services like gamespy because it provides a better gaming experience.
Live silver is free, which is tons better already than what sony offer.

Personally I can't see it changing, the big draw for Xbox live for me is how easy it all is, I can be playing game X, a notification pops up to tell me my mate has just signed in, I press the guide button and see he's playing game Z, he invites me, then all I have to do is accept the invite and pop the disc in and it sorts everything else out for me.
On the PS3 however all of the online parts of the games are done by each different publisher, so unless my mate happens to phone me and tells me he is playing something I won't have a clue he is on there.
