Looking at how I was to get my XVid and Divx stuff to play, I stumbled across this VERY cool tool:

www.tversity.com

Basicly it sits on your PC, and you can get your 360 to connect to it, and whenever you want to watch ANYTHING from your PC on your 360, it decodes, and then buffers to vid to the 360.

A bit of faffing may be required, but it seems to be working nicely for me

After quite a few hours troubleshooting, it seems the following are pre-requisites:

Windows Media Player 11
FFDShow
Latest AC3 codec
XVid set to *something or other - will find the setting*

Be careful though, you a need a bitching computer to use this

You might find this thread useful

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=339865&f=108&h=0

FWIW, I find trooperiziz's batch works great, but encode360 is also great if you want automatic encoding of say you torrent d/l directory, and the original files moving/deleting.

I think the main difference is that this app allows the encoding on the fly - its not designed for the xbox 360 really, more it allows anything you like to connect i.e. http access. It just so happens to be useful for the xbox 360. The reason why you need a hefty machine is because of this on the fly encoding to wmv. Everything else works really nicely... I was aware of that thread however i cant be arsed with all the fiddling
