As mentioned the other day I'm gearing up to get a Xbox 360. I understand the latest update has monkeyed about with the settings for accessing xbox live something to do with NAT.

How can I check that my router has the correct NAT to work with xbox live (I'm not really au fait with networking terms and techniques). If I need a new router to make it work then quite frankly I'll knock the idea on the head.

Anyone have this router (WRTG54 by Linksys), I understand it's a fairly popular model.

Here is a list of compatible routers...

www.xbox.com/en-GB/support/xbox/connect/faq/routers.htm

...NAT is a setting within the router. For best gaming the NAT must be set to OPEN. How to change the NAT setting will be in the router destructions.

Cheers

Exactly the router I use, and mine's (still) running with no issues...

A couple of things to note:

Ensure that your router has UPnP turned on, if it has it.

If it does not, you need to go and start opening your ports etc, or put your XBox in a DMZ.

If you need help for your particular router go to : www.portforward.com

It will give you step by stem instructions for setting up your router to work with an XBox, however, it may not give you Open NAT reports on the XBox.

I had to enable UPnP on my Zyxel router, once done, the XBox set up all the configurations itself (seeing as thats what UPnP allows).

Dont worry to much about that.

I have a Belkin wireless router, it is not on the xbox live list, but works without any problems, alows me to stream content from my other wireless & Wired PC's, Works first time faultlessly everytime.

Just get XBOX 360 & wirless adapter, they should work!
