Ranked matches in Call of Duty 3

Why is getting a ranked match so differcult on COD3? tonight I have spent an hour and a half playing just 2 games with the rest of the time waiting for people to join the group.

Surly in the whole world more than 18 people are playing COD3?????

Its probably because its a ranked match. The game is probably trying to put only players of a similar rank in the same match. In my experience this either works very well eg Halo 2 or very badly eg PGR3 and you spend more time waiting for more players than playing

Although its good to have rankings IMO some games would be more enjoyable without them

I think you're right mate. I actually utterly gave up on PGR3 for that exact reason. CoD3 may be going the same way.

Additionally annoying - the ranked matches take so long to fill that people tend to start when there's only 8 players. On some maps, that's just dull.

Ok a few things about this (worth checking official forums and xbox forums for this). The main problem at the moment is people are only waiting for about 30 seconds, then quitting, for some reason the ranked matches take a while to get people into. Obviously some fixes are due for the game to, which hopefully should help elimited some issues.
I only tried one ranked match, got my ass kicked in seconds and thought, mmm this isnt fun, hehe.
