Pro's :

It's dead easy to do
You can download ISO's

Cons :

You could end up banned from Xbox Live although as far as I know it's not happened to anyone yet.

At the end of the day :

If you never intend to go on line then do it.
If you are on line but are prepered to take the risk of banning then do it.

The mod would be like the one I have in my normal XBox were I can download games and put them on the 120GB harddrive... Its also a DVD player (without the need for remote) and I can play an emulated game (n64, MAME, etc).

Haven't seen that mod!! Sounds good though.

I have my machine modded to play "backupgames". it works great, on Live to.

Heard a rumour that if I hooked the original up, that it would check the software/bios and if the screening process found anything untowards (large harddrive, mod chip) then Microsoft would and can legally erase the hard drive.... (told to me by the person chipping it at the time as a warning) was wondering if its still the same??

I forgot to turn off the switch on my old chipped one and signed into live. Microsoft simply locked out the console from playing on live from the next time I tried to login (switch on or off) this forced me to buy another one to be able to play on live.

Don't think they do anything like remove stuff from the hard drive (that just sounds like a scare story) but they will lockout the machine from connecting to their servers. Hence why you have to be very careful to ensure the chip is disabled before you connect to xbox live.

Wonder if this is a case to get 2 360s???

The eXecutor mod-chips for the original XBox disable the network port when active so you simply cannot accidentally connect to Live whilst running modded. Very useful as Steve_Evil is quite right - Microsoft instantly permanently ban modded XBox connecting to Live.

I would be very surprised if Microsoft had reversed that policy for XBox360 Live. I doubt they'd go as far as deleting HDDs though - that would be legally dodgy I would imagine (Computer Misuse Act, perhaps?) and fairly pointless as banning the XBox from Live would be quite sufficient to achieve the desired effect, I would say.

Mine works fine on XBOX live, i have taken the view that would prefer the games than play on Live. if my console does get banned from live then hey-ho it happens.

All the updates currently get installed no problem. I am sure they will stop soon but at the moment it is fine.

Is that the XBox 360 or the old one?
