I am looking to buy a Sega megadrive for my daughter(honest) and have been looking at a few on EBAY, I notice that some are megadrive 16 bit and some are megadrive 2. Does it matter which one I get, is there a big difference?
Thanks.

They're the same thing, but the 'II' is physically smaller.

The Megadrive 2 is the same as a Megadrive 1 but in a smaller case IIRC. No differences in performance etc. Outpur socketry migh be slightly different but I don't know. I have an original Megadrive and it still works great...! Nice little console.

Thanks very much, 16 bit seems to be cheaper so I will probably go for one of those.
Edited to add,
Isn't this place great for finding stuff out!

IIRC, you can attatch the mega cd to 2 but not 1... I wouldnt consider it a reason to get a 2!

It's only £18 for a 2 on Buy It Now. Go on; really push the boat out!

I just bought a megadrive 1 off ebay, purly so I can play Golden Axe!

I can't remember why I chose the 1 over the 2 but I think it was because there were more addons compatible with it, and there was better output options (can't remember that for sure - but it figures as these things usually get costed down throughout there life). Also, the 1 is the classic original!

There are loads of emulators for the PC that will let you play MD games. My mate has got thousands of MS and SNES games on his, all the classics & even more random rubbish too.

I know, but they aren't a Megadrive with Megadrive controllers and everything! At some point I plan to build an big emaultor box with SNES, Medgadrive, Amiga etc etc loaded on but it'll never be the same!

I am buying it for my daughter with money she got for Christmas, so I want her to get value for money. I have my eye on one with some decent games but we will see how it goes.

Thanks for the suggestion but she got a megadrive with 8 games including road rash, streets of rage2 and sonic for £22 inc postage. She is very happy.

Best thing to do IMO is get an xbox, softmod it and put all the emulators on it. Then you can play N64, Megadrive, SNES, NES etc with a reasonable controller. 4 player Mario Kart, for example

We bought a Nintendo 64 just so we could play 4 player mario cart, its fab. We also have a PS2 so we probably have enough game consoles now.

I remember the day Streets of Rage was released... Great game!

And the japanese launch title shoot em up, Gynoug. sheer class.

But nothing beats 4 player SNES bomberman for old school laughs. That and N64 Goldeneye and SNES Mariokart.

I'd be happy with that too.
