Can't stand the dentists drill of an engine sound in the Caterham R500? Me too, so I've put together some new engine sounds for it. You will need some other mods for these to work as they use engine samples from them, but I think they are ones that just about everyone has anyway.

BACKUP YOUR ORIGINAL Cat_R500.sfx file then just copy and drop whichever SFX file you want to give you new sounds.

They are:-

Ford V8 from V8Factor (for that SEight effect)
Growling V10 from the Gallardo GT3 mod
Alfa F1 from the 1979 mod

Enjoy

Would this cause a mismatch online?

No, sounds don't effect performance, it might make it sound faster but you won't be

Besides if by some miracle of maxpower you don't like them, you can always put back the original that you have backed up and saved off somewhere safe.

Some more, again using the Caterhams as examples.

If you want the sound of the old GPL cars, Ferrari's, BRM, Brabham, Eagle etc.... I've done the same with these below.

www.mercia.biz/rfactor/Sounds_of_GPL.rar (2.48mb RAR file)

1) Copy the GPL folder into your sounds folder.
2) In your main Caterham folder BACKUP YOUR ORIGINAL Cat_R500.SFX file and keep it in a safe place.
3) Then copy and paste whatever of the Cat_R500.sfx sound files you want from the 3 types in the RAR file.

Ps. I haven't yet found a good idle sound so it still uses the V8Factor idle. You need V8Factor installed if you want to hear the cars on idle. If not it will be silent until you use the throttle.

You know if you wanted to you could uses different sounds for different R500s.

Just rename all the SFX files I posted to what ever you like E.g lot.sfx, repco.sfx, brm.sfx (whatever) and then edit the VEH files in the R500 folder for whatever cars you want to give the sounds to.

Changing the bit in bold below

HDVehicle=R500.hdv
Graphics=R500_upgrades.gen
Spinner=R500_Spinner.gen
Upgrades=F1_Upgrades.ini // Vehicle upgrades information
GenString= // Used to generate GMT names in *.gen file
Cameras=cat_cams.cam // Defaults to cams.cfg in UserData directory
Sounds=cat_R500.sfx //Sounds=default.sfx
HeadPhysics=headphysics.ini // Affects driver eyepoint only
Cockpit=cat_cockpitinfo.ini

Shouldn't cause miss-matches as the Veh file isn't a physics based file, just holds info on team data, like driver names and things that you can always change and edit.

PS. I've already done a similar thing with the rFGP (that first GPL style mod) that was removed from most sim sites. Now all the cars have original GPL engine sounds and not the GP79 ones.
