I baulk at the cost of the wireless addon for the xbox 360, but don't have the option to run a wire from my router to it.

My housemate came up with the idea of connecting it to my PC and using internet connection sharing. It worked amazingly and I can use xbox live just as if wired into the router normally - NAT works (open) and everything. To do it, wire 360 directly into your PC, not via a hub, no crossover cable required, and then enable Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on your wireless connection (assuming that is your PC's internet connection.

Amazing.

Yep or use your laptop with Wifi and a newtork port.

360 auto detects cable type so you can use straight or x over.

Damn, I thought this thread was going to be about using windows media connect to browse the web on the 360.

The 360 really needs a browser. I am sick of sarky emails from my wii-loving mates gloating about how great their version of opera is.

I think Microsoft will surely bring it to xbox 360 in time... It seems so obvious. Especially if they're going to bring TV/film viewing and downloading etc.

The wii browsing is alright, but doing it with the pointy thing aches your arm after a short while.

Why not buy a wireless adapter for your PC, and then move the router next to the 360. Costs less than a tenner, much cheaper than the xbox wireless adapter!

I couldn't get mine to work for some reason, kept failing on a NAT test.

It's piss to fix the strict NAT issue. Set your xbox with a static IP, then forward ports 88 (UDP) and 3074 (TCP/UDP). I found a useful step by step, in the style of portforward.com, but I can't find it now.

Yeah I tried that but it never worked. Maybe it was the UDP or whatever its called. Said that it needs 1496 or higher.

I had something to set it up as well that worked, but I couldn't find it. Spent hours searching.

In the end I went to PC World and bought a 10 metre phone line extension cable and ran it round the outside of the house. Directly connected to t'internet now so connection is a lot faster than wireless. Would still like to know how to do it though. Didn't half piss me off!

I don't have the option of moving the router.

For my NAT to work in this manner (which it did straight away) this was my setup:

Router 192.168.1.1
PC on 192.168.1.109
xbox I think has fixed IP as well, and probably gateway and DNS address are set to the router 192.168.1.1 too.
That way I believe the xbox just acts as anotehr client on teh router's network, so the PC isn't doing any 'routing' of packets to the xbox (which might need port forwarding etc).
Not forwarding set up in router.

Wii vs. 360
Browsing vs. no browsing
Getting hacked vs. not getting hacked
720p vs. 1080p
Aimed at causual gamers/kids vs. aimed at adult, serious gamers.

Opera has already had a patch due to people trying to hack it. Personally, I could do without my console trying to be hacked, I have enough trying to keep up with it on the PC ;

Isn't it 480p vs 1080p - and the 360 games are all in 720 anyway, anything higher is just upscaled.

It's true that all current games on the 360 are currently 720p,afaik, but Virtua Tennis is 1080p.

I thought it was 720p, but, they say the cable below will go up to 1080i ???

www.consolesandgadgets.co.uk/catalog/nintendo-component-cable-blaze-p-2403.html

But then the reviews say only up to 480p ??

Who knows ??
