USA PS3, is it worth it

So would it be worth me getting a PS3 int he US. I will be there for my hols in early April and was not going to geta PS3 until a few good games come out. But will it work in the UK, games etc....
just thought I would ask if the PS3 is going to costs loads over hear would it be worth getting

Only drawbacks (over a UK PS3).:
BR movie regions , US & Japan are in 1, Europe in another, though MANY BR disks seem to lack this region coding anyuhow.
PS1/2 games are region coded, lots of UK PS2 games?
DVD's, guess it wont play REG2 DVD's etiher.
At some point games publishers could region code games too, despite sony's promise, its down to the publisher.
Its not a huge list, biggest worry for me would be warrenty, theres been a number of broken PS3's imported.
US or Jap PS3 makes no real diff.
