Can anyone make any sense of this:

RE_Shutdown( 1 )
Shutting down OpenGL subsystem
...wglMakeCurrent( NULL, NULL ): success
...deleting GL context: success
...releasing DC: success
...hiding window
...destroying window
...window successfully destroyed
...resetting display
...shutting down QGL
...unloading OpenGL DLL

This is the message I got on one of the 15-20 odd times Medal Of Honor Allied Assault, online, crashed/froze(blank screen)/shut down.

The obvious says its just a breakdown of the tasks involved to shut down the game.
Or can anyone read into or recognise this dialogue?

Thanks all
Cad

unninstall your VGA driver, then reinstall the latest version of DirectX, then load the latest drivers for your VGA card.

might also be worth unninstalling the game and reinstall after you changed the directx and the drivers.

Yeah thats just the system tidying up the openGL subsystem after exiting the game, why the game is exiting is another matter.

Could be drivr problems (as outlined above) or some weakness/overheating of your PC due to game stress.

Do you play other games of similar technical levels?

Thanks for that Gary.

I did all that, and it did seem to play for longer...... before it crashed.
One of the fans inside has been humming loudly then stopping for a while. So I might find out if its the VGA card fan. If so, that could be the problem... card over heating.

Another thing. When I play at 1024x768 res, it seems to crash more/quicker.

Is there any way I can get round this? As playing at 800x600 (safe mode) is crap, as the screen is filled with the in game text.

Least durable, apt to fail part of any PC is the cheap cooling fans.

Sounds like your VGA card has a problem, easy & cheap to replace mate - try that first.

yes

Also if it's an ATi graphics chip you might need to look around the forums of that game to see which is the recommended version of Catalyst to use. ATi's drivers and OpenGL are not happy bunnies... well ATi's drivers aren't at the best of times.

If it's Nvidia... again look to see if a version is recommended. Also see if the game is at the latest patch level.

Rob, Sarah, thanks for your replies thumbup

Will take out the card and take it back to the place I got it from. Probably out of warranty, but will see if they will supply a free fan, to keep me a happy customer.

Otherwise I'll buy a new one.

Will also check MOH website for latest patches.

Downloaded latest patch, but still crashing.

Looks like a new AGP card is the way forward now.

Power Supply Unit.

If you take the side panel off it's the big box (often at the top, could be at the bottom) in to which the kettle lead plugs and will have a veritable cornicopia of cables and sockets coming out of it on the inside. Like the computer itself, a PSU's fan can fail and components inside fail. Usually you just get a 'pop' and magic smoke or the PC doesn't turn on. But it can cause very strange behaviour from the system whilst it's on it's way out.
