Test Drive Unlimted for the PC - Has anyone tried it?
Discussion
Some people in Europe have it, though UK specifically doesn't...
Already have a few internet friends having issues with it, so I hope they are patching it now before the grumpy Brits get hold of it.
Niggles aside, tis a great game. I ran the demo for a week and really enjoyed it... bit of an epic game really.
Got it on pre-order and decided to get round to my PC upgrade just for this game!

I did the beta, fun for a bit, but the handling is atrocious and can be pretty boring as most of the roads were set out for Koeniggzegs to do 240, not a GTI doing 80. Some of the sounds are nice, ferraris etc, but others such as the astons and tvrs just sound poor.
Well the roads are mapped from the actual roads on the Hawian island where the game is set, not made up for the game.... so I guess if you own a 'Ksegg moving to this island would be advisable
Downloaded it from the Atari site last night and they're not kidding when they say min spec is a 256mb video card. Even on min-detail it's unplayable. My laptop can handle FSX, GTR and GTL fine and runs a 2ghz Turion with 2gb RAM - it's not rubbish, but it just can't pump polygons fast enough for TDU.
Guess I'll just burn it to DVD for when I get my next desktop and buy the PSP version as well.
On the plus side it looks fantastic and the idea is great too - I like the idea of just being able to drive around an island in supercars without having all the financial issues of real life!
PSP version will go someway to offset the perpetual delays in getting Gran Turismo on that platform. Although the lack of internal view is disappointing and only 65 cars vs 125 on the PC.

Well I'm running it on a 3.4ghz Intel P4 with 1.5gb ram and 128mb GeForce 6610 video, and it works just fine?
Bloody good fun game, Currently own 2 lambos, an Aston and few mucle cars*
*Top tip, if you own a Mustang GT get to the American Muscle Tuners. you can select Saleen as a tuning package and have the option of turning to Gt into 3 different Saleen Mustangs complete with full body styling packages. Sound superb and go like stink.

I don't know about anyone else, but I've found it to be pretty buggy, especially the sound and connectivity.
So far, it steadfastly refuses to accept any GameSpy online ID passwords, and won't connect to the TDU server at all. The sound is crackly in the extreme and often drops out entirely when the cars hit high revs.
Whilst the gameplay appears to be fun, without sound or the persistent online element I'm feeling a bit short changed ATM. Patch please, Atari!

The Gamespy element is a complete farce, someone else who never plays this game, somewhere in the world might use the same name you want to use, but you can't...
Then when you create the Gamespy account you realise the game uses a *different* name, so you then have to think up another one. If you change your original account name then it's still locked out (I tried 10 times)...
It's simply THE most frustrating idiotic system ever conceived for a game. Things like GTL just work, no fuss, no outside accounts, it just makes Atari look incompetent.
And yes, the online element is buggy. Apparently the server for displaying drivers was down last night, or so an internet friend told me, while I messed with port forwarding on my router, undocumented things you NEED to do to make it work, that you find out through forums, not from Atari.
Why they can't have a server status in the game, so you know that everything is 100% working or not, and if it's you or them. It's just sloppy support.
I've had no sound issues thankfully.
Atari really have dropped a bollock with this, and I would be blaming the idiots in marketing who set a date that couldn't be met, leaving the game buggy and un-finished!

I've got it and I love it. Not played online but it's a great laugh hooning around some little island in a caterham.
Only buggy thing i've found is I get stuck in the scenery when I go "offroading" (not that it happens often, honest) and once I saw a car parked ontop of another one spinning round lots and lots.

I agree with you Xeno, however my cruiser of choice is my black/gold Muira, or maybe my 288GTO, then again its fun cruising in the Murci... or the Gallardo, or the Aston?
Had it since release day so got about 10 cars and 2 houses with 8 car garages in each.
Perfect driving missions:- For example, try and do the car delivery missions and get them perfect (even if it means averaging 50mph for the whole 13+miles). Upon "perfect" completion you not only get the $90k but you will get an extra $45k bonus. Although these missions are one shot jobs (ie, if you fail you never get another chance) you can actually restart the mission if you crash by pausing (P) and then hitting restart. Takes some time but I find it quite alot of fun having to drive correctly and having to be carefull in choosing the overtaking points. And the financial gains are well worth the effort at the end of the day.
Hidden Saleen Mustangs:- When you buy a Mustang GT go to the muscle car tuner and select "Saleen" as a tuning supplier. you will not only get more power, but your Mustang Gt will be transformed into a full Saleen S281 complete with wheels and bodystyling. In fact it you will find that you no longer own a "Ford Mustang" in your car list, but rather a "Saleen S281". (3 variations available depending on how much you spend)

Hay cool. Didn't know about the perfect on the delivery thing. I've always got about 99% of the full price
. I've not really played it that long.
Got the Alfa as a starter car.
Then a Lotus exige
Then a 350Z which I sold because it's shit
Which then bought a caterham
Then I bought a masaarti granrace or whatever it's called (cool noise)
Back to it then!

Fancy paint works well on the Muscle cars
Mind you, the custom paint shop also does well in creating nice candy colours that are not over the top. I managed to buy an F1 today (go test drive it
) and I used the custom shop to spray it a nice candy dark blue... very shiney without being too much.

Really want to get a nice selection of cars but it's a tad less fun right now because I played through maybe the first 20% in the beta so I'm covering old ground/roads etc...
I'm only on 110pts, another 300+ to go to get to Champion level and open up that £85k run in 30s and hardcore mode
