Maybe I just don't get the whole Zelda type of game but I played it for an hour with the gf watching and both came tothe conclusion it's shite. It's never been back in the drive.

I need something that has a bit of a storyline/plot for the wife. Does Zelda fill this? Any other suggestions?

Zelda is absolutely awesome!
Bought my Wii on wed and just bought zelda with it then.
Played 18hrs since I think!
It's absolutely awesome, loved it on N64 and it has exactly the same appeal again!

Get it, you won't be disappointed!

Err, that is actually not so easy!

Basically you play as Link, saviour of the world of Hyrule. Zelda is the Princess of the land but is imprisoned by an evil Twili wizard. In his efforts to conquer the world of Hyrule, Zant (the Twili wizard) turns the world from light to twilight (hence he is the evil ruler of the Twili - the people who live in the world of twilight).

During his quests, he must free the imprisoned spirits of light and banish the twilight. You get to meet lots of interesting people and places and re-unite Hyrule to over-throw Zant. Helping you in your quest are a few people, but most importantly is Midna, a Twili herself. She assists by using her magic. Unfortunately, Link is caught between the world of light and twilight and finds himself turned into a wolf. Transforming from man to wolf as he crosses from the world of light to twilight (yes, you get to play as both wolf and man!).

Its a cracking game and its not all head-shots and blood baths. In fact, for fans of Gears of War on the X360, chances are they will hate Zelda - no where near as much guts and splattered blood (there isnt any!). However, its well thought out. Is a massive game with a variety which has to be seen to be believed. Its also very progressive - no major leaps in difficulty. It guides you very steadily through the game and "teaches" you the complex moves and use of items required later. So much so, that it becomes second nature. The big "boss" monsters are impressive and typically fill a room in comparison to Link, but are not massively difficult. In fact I only died a couple of times through them all, and there are loads!

Some of the game is puzzle based and you need to figure things out. Some of these puzzles are a little obscure and irritating, but this is only rarely. A quick google can normally resolve any of the annoying ones quickly (or get the Prima guide which I hear is good).

Zelda games are not for everyone, but this one is well thought out, perfectly executed and an illustration that a game can have a story and tell a tale. Its not endless trudging and makes excellent use of the Wii controller....

Very highly recommended - though I have done it now so need the next fix. Unfortunately it takes Nintendo (and Shigeru Myamoto IIRC) 3-4 years to write the bloody thing. Here is looking forward to 2010 then!
