..my PC?

XP
AMD 3000 (2.1GHz)
512MB RAM
ATI Radeon X1600pro graphics card

Im thinking about getting it, just wanted opinions from people who already have it for PC. I see there are threads on this already, Does anybody have an up to date opinion?

Is it worth getting, and will it run ok on my spec PC? I hear it has some swanky graphics.

I rekon it'd be pretty jumpy with 512 of ram.

Bloody good game though.

If it works...

Lets see and I'm not making this up. You could suffer from the random graphics corruption issue so alt+tab repeatedly can cure it, you could also have an incompatible wheel or other forcefeed back device (which actually includes my Microsoft intellimouse for some reason). You could get a black screen and crash to desktop, which is always nice.
You could get the three videos to play and then crash to desktop, which is fun, kinda like the game tormenting you.
If you play online then the profile you create can and will change sex/corrupt/delete itself.
Ohh and ignore the M.O.O.R thing, it's a marketing trick to make the came look like a MMORPG with thousands of people on the roads at once, you will see at most 7 other players, that's the limit, the rest are AI's.
The graphics are allegedly good but short cuts have been taken, examples are retractable spoilers don't and third brake lights aren't. Crests in the roads are more akin to ramps due to them not actually doing things accurately by all accounts.

The game is exceptionally twitchy to PC's in all aspects (CPU, Chipset, GFx card and their respective drivers); the fabled patch, which was supposed to be out mid-may (now mid-june? Expect it to be delayed again) is apparently going to correct SOME of these issues but not ALL, however trying to find out what it will cover will get you banned from the Atari forums.

Now to take your PC, 512MB RAM? No way. This beast isn't happy unless you feed it 1GB or more, preferably 2GB. You're processor whilst good isn't 'good enough', you'll want a full on X2 or Core 2 Duo or something in the high 2Ghz preferably 3Ghz range, crappy code requires more grunt. The X1600... might do it... at 800x600, if you want more you'll need serious horse power but not an 8000 series Nvidia card... it has issues with those and don't bother with either CrossFire or SLi for the same reason.

Personally I'd buy yourself rFactor and a wheel then go race the nutters, or if you really want TDU... buy a 360, it's the only version of the game that has zero issues and 'just works' (even the PS2 version has problems), but then if you are buying a 360... why not just buy Forza 2 which seems to be bloody brilliant according to the PHers.

Well considering we have two people on these forums who've brought the game and it's failed to work... one of whom brought the PS2 version and THEN the PC version, I don't think I'm being overly unfair on the product do you?

Or are you suggesting that the faults I've listed are inaccurate somehow? Civpilot, you yourself have seen the steps I've taken in fault finding the product and we've both reached the conclusion that the product is flawed or do you have something else to suggest in getting the game running?

The OP asked if the game was worth it: The answer is No. And I've listed the reasons why.
The OP asked if the game will run on his/her PC: The answer is again No. And I've listed an upgrade path that might result in a working TDU installation.

I have it, and am addicted, as are the kids (boy and girl, aged 11 and 12 respectively) I have experienced very few issues, no more in fact than any other game I have bought and played.

I would say that your PC may not be up to it though. I would, at the very least, invest in another 512MB stick of RAM.

As much as I love the game, Passenger is right to an extent. It is a bit of a lottery as to whether the game will run well on a given system which meets the specs.

Your system spec is lower than mine, I only get 25ish fps on 800x600 with low setttings all round. It probably wont run that well on your system.

A patch is imminent by all accounts, I am keen to see if it has any performance benefit for my system.

I can't fault Atari in terms of customer service. I paid for the digital download which simply wouldnt start on the majority of peoples computers. A patch came out 3 days later I think it was and I received a free dvd of the UK version a week before its release here and a copy of the US DVD a coupla days later.

I had it running okay on an Athlon 64 3500, 1Gb ram and a 6800gt, but had to have the hdr off, I think anything less than that and it would have struggled though, even sticking in another 6800gt and running SLi didn't make much off a difference. Just recently upgraded to a Core 2 duo, 2Gb ram, and a 8800gts, and it runs lovely with eveything turned up!

Working fine on mine Athlon64 3700+, 256mb 6800GS with 1gb RAM.
Although there is an apparent randomness to whether it will work!
Great game if it does work though!!

MY only gripe is the amount of times we seem to get disconnected, a royal pain if you're in the middle of a 120 mile race worth £200,000!

My 12 year old step daughter was just on it, and it was so funny watching all the other online players following her in her Tuscan, asking to be added to their friends list! I have told her to state her age, pronto!

I used to get that problem all the time, (although I think that was my bloody housemate and Limewire....)
Been fine for ages now though.
Need to get back on it, the Wii has distracted me wink

P.S. Hows GTR chris?

Haven't had much tiome to play it - I'm lucky if I can grab the controller off the kids playing TDU, let alone anything else! lol

I have tried it, though. It does seem to be really good, I may get GTR2 now....
