Don't fall over just yet...

Before I pay for a years subs I am trying to find out if there are any rumours of Microsoft competing with Playstation Live.

As I understand it PS live is free, and I wondered how long it would be before MS changed it's prices to remian competitive.

I would hate to shell out £40 and then find out Xbox live goes free 4 or 5 months later.

Have you used that with good effect? It can't be as good/easy as live surely?

Yep, used it a lot. Takes a bit of time to setup, but following that no problems. Oh, and the price is right. smile (free

That's all well and good, but the whole thing that appeals about XBox live is that all my mates have it and how easy it is to use, plus the number of people online on that xlink thing looks pretty pathetic, similar numbers that you might see on a sub-standard game at any one time on xbox live.

I'm a systems admin (or was until recently) so it wasn't a big deal for me to get setup. Most issues seem to concern firewalls and ports and people not understanding how to configure things.

Depends what games you play I s'pose. I've got an original X-Box and tend to play Forza a lot... I've never had any issues getting a competitive grid of cars.

TBH, there is no reason why you can't use both...

Is there an offer on at the mo or is this normal?
I signed up to a gold account using the voucher that was in the box, yet when my GF signed up for a silver account a day or two later, it came up saying she was entitled to a free month on gold.

You've always got a free month of Gold with the X360.

Quite a few games have 24 hour vouchers too, I subscribed a few months after I got my 360, but would consider other methods when it expires, would be great if MS did make it a free service though.
