rFactor larkabouts

It was suggested in another thread that we have a thread running for the rFactor larkabouts. I haven't seen one anywhere so thought i should start one.

So when are the larkabouts taking place, or is it kind of spur-of-the-moment stuff?

Go to www.rfactor.net then downloads section. Download v1.150 it has a basic demo for you to try out too (basic cars + the 2006 Sauber F1). You can buy it online and get a unlock code for the whole game. Then download the very latest version v1.250 and visit the site below for extra series, cars & tracks

You can't go far wrong starting with the Hall of Fame cars & tracks.

Have a look around the other cars & tracks too though. And the projects still being worked on in the WIP sections.

It is easier to download but you still pay (think its £30) as the only two places (again i think) you can buy a disc from are in the US. I payed and downloaded it and its very simple. It's a very good racing sim as lots of people are making loads of mods for it all the time. There is a trial on www.rfactor.net if you want to try it out first.

In the good old days we simply posted on here that 'I am online now if anyone is about', or we went into the chat lobby and you could spot which race your PH buddy was in and join it.

Generally there would always be two or three of us about every night

Tonight - the Larkabout server is set to Ferarri 430's at Donington - it's the non updated version so make sure you ahve the right files - see the link I posted on the V8's forum on Sunday.

So tonight at 8.30 - I'll stick around until 9pm to give people a chance to get sorted and turn up.

Yep it's version 1.0 and you do need the physics patch (didn't work for me until I added it)

Fun as that was, the physics patch make the F430s much, much harder to drive.

I think we're going to have to find something else...

The game/sim is only really worth playing if you have a really good steering wheel with force feedback. Most people seem to recommend the Logitech G25 which on its own is about £200, however you might want to get it like this or this.

I have heard that a combination of rFactor and the G25 is a really good way to learn about some skills and techniques that you could then take onto the track or even the road. Not sure about how true this is, I've downloaded it but not yet got round to installing it.

I agree with RebelStar, what ever the Physics patch has done to these cars (never tried them without the patch), they are not really suitable for larking about with, they now breakaway too easily

As I recall the Gallardo's were fun and quite predictable, we had them on the server around before christmas, remember having fun round Silverstone

So I'll propose them for larking about

I use the PS2 logitech Driving Force Pro (as do other rFactorers) which I find does the job very well and is a darn sight cheaper than the G25, if not a great

Reading what was written on RSC the original physics were all guess work, the cars weight was wrong, aerodynamics wrong, too much front end grip, inertia, dampers too all needing fixing. It is a road version of the 430 but was using 'borrowed' GT racing data from a GTR2 racing car.

Sure is. Download the Logitech gaming software and then you can edit rates and calibrate it etc. Uses USB connection so no adapters needed
