No price cut for Euro PS3 console

So although in the US where the PS3 is already cheaper, they've announced no price cut for Europe, but you do get 2 games and an extra controller now called the Starter Pack
What does everyone think of this? Good, bad or irrelevant?

I feel like Sony are taking my head and forcibly rubbing it in sh*t. Screw the early adopters who bought the console early and believe in the company... They could at least offer some form of voucher to those who bought the console early which would give them another controller and a choice of a game or some blu-rays.
There is a voucher in the States at the moment where if you buy any blu-ray player (PS3 included) you can choose 5 blu-ray movies from a big list of them for free.

Apparently they're bringing out an 80GB version in America too...
Hopefully by the time I've saved up enough Nectar points to buy one it'll be cheaper and GT5 should be out too!! I'm currently at 15800 which in Argos is £79. Did have £99 but the missus acidentally spent £20's worth on a shredder!

David Reeves, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, says that Sony's recent was-it-or-wasn't-it-a-price-cut maneuvering on the PlayStation 3 won't last long.
He told GamesIndustry.biz yesterday at E3 that Sony was just going to run down its stock of 60 GB units, then make the new $600, 80 GB, feature-cut model the only one on shelves. What's more, stocks of the old model, which was cut in price to $500 this week, "will be gone by the end of July."

I think it's quite a good thing to be honest.
From a value point of view you can't really argue as the 2 games and the extra SIXAXIS are worth quite a bit.
The games although not new are some of the best to be had on the PS3 (is that saying something?
) So I would imagine that most gamers would have bought at least one of them, both being Million sellers.
Leaves room for a further possible price reduction in the future, Xmas or even sooner to combat Halo3 on 360?
I can't think it's gonna make a huge difference as the inital price is still high, but then Sony must know this and I think it was mentioned in the interview that Sony are relativley happy with the current sales in europe.

Price cuts are inevitable with any games console. You (and I) paid more for the privelige of having it earlier than everyone else, at some point europe will get a price cut. There is a voucher in the States at the moment where if you buy any blu-ray player (PS3 included) you can choose 5 blu-ray movies from a big list of them for free.
btw - The 80gb model is not comthing you need to upgrade to like you would with a 360 elite. Its the same console with a bigger hdd, you can easily upgrade your 60gb ps3 with any 2.5 SATA hard disc.

AFAIK: For now the 80GB is just for the US. The current US 60Gb have the full Emotion Engine for PS2 backwards compatability, where as the Euro 60Gb has the EE emulated by the Cell processor.
The 80Gb uses the cost reduced Euro model, so the extra 20Gb is just a sweetener for the US getting software backwards compatability.

I was thinking of getting the PS3 recently with Motorstorm, but held off a few days when I heard about this possibly happening.
In truth, it doesn't really do much for me. I don't need a second controller, and I can already get the console for £399 + £30 for the game, so not much changed really.
Looks like you get a choice of games though, so could add Ridge Racer or something.
Not seen any of the online stores advertising it yet...

The fact remains that it came out just over 3 months ago and they're already bunging in two free games and an extra controller, it's not like it's a year later and they're introducing bundles.
Yeah, wasn't the Gamecube I was thinking of, it was the original Xbox, they dropped the price and then offered a free joypad and two free games to those who had bought it at the old price, something Sony had better think about doing as sniffing through their forums it looks like there is already dissent brewing in the ranks.
Sony are under no obligaton to drop the price of the PS3.
On the other hand, European gamers are under no obligation to buy it whilst it's so expensive.
I for one am not only in danger of keeping my wallet in my pocket for good, I'm actually starting to think that an xBox 360 might be a decent alternative.

Yahoo is currently running this news story about the PS3's pricing. Seems that they're just clearing out of the old 60GB stock.
