I know from previous discussions that there are few PH-ers who are eagerly awaiting this new release, so you may be interested to know that the demo is apparently now up and available for download.

I'm assuming so, Mr Fidg.

I'm in the office at present (note I didn't say at work wink ) so can't check for myself but am just reporting what I've read on another forum I frequent.

I haven't seen the review itself yet but I've just read that PC Zone (whose views I've historically found to be pretty much in tune with my own) raved about Bioshock in the latest issue and gave it very high marks in their review. This bodes well.

I stopped my subscription to PCZ a while back as I just wasn't playing PC games any more, but I may have a quick shufty in WH Smith at the station on the way home tonight wink

Downloaded this this morning - first impressions are that it should be pretty good. It certainly looks great. I'm not sure what the potential for a decent multi-player are though (although that's not always required IMO)

Played the demo over lunch.

Firstly - how dissapointing... 6 hours to download - a maximum of 30 minutes gameplay on the demo!

It looks nice, great reflections - storyline, somewhat weird, set in the 60's in an underwater city...

Weaponry, well only the pistol and tommy gun in the demo - so not a great example i suppose.

the other side, unfortunatley just appears to be 'magic' type approach from Oblivion etc.. just with a slightly different pretense...

I've yet to play the demo but I'm really looking forward to it, certainly doesn't seem like it will be anywhere near as disappointing as the Heavenly Sword demo on PS3, spent hours downloading it, installed it last night and much like an over-excited youth it was all over within 5 minutes of starting it.

I will download this when I get in later, very much looking forward to this one smile

As for multiplayer, I seem to recall reading that the game has no multi player mode at all, purely a single player one this.

Probably going to d/load the full game of track and field too, loved that game when I was younger!

I was pretty disappointed by it. Never seen or heard a single thing about the game before playing it and was really chuffed when it started because I loved the retro sci-fi style and setting of it. The game looks amazing and the envorinments are incredible, but I didn't really like the whole shooting lightning and fire thing and found the combat pretty rubbish. And since I guess that's what the game is pretty much made up of I'll be giving it a miss. Would have loved a more something with more of an adventure slant or something with more to it than a regular FPS, set in the same environment.

Gameplay didn't live up to the use of the game engine I think pretty much sums up how I feel.

its been getting amazing reviews.

cant be that bad surely.?

While you are d/loading demos, try stranglehold...its pretty much like max payne, but play it through and unlock the slow mo-sniper mode. Its hilarious.

yeah, i do feel its going to be a very, very linear, standard FPS - with the oblivion style magic/weapons..

Might give it a go though...

After reading some of the reviews (all of which are stunning 95%-100%), it seems that the game is very-non linear, with only the demo intro sequence steering you along a path. Also, Bioshock is the spiritual successor to System Shock 2, one of my favorite games ever made... which, even though was in first person, was certainly not a first person shooter, much like Bioshock. You are NOT a one man army, you are not Rambo. Isolation, fear, tension and morality choices are the name of the game here.

Well I downloaded it yesterday, took just over an hour on 4mb broadband, why 6hrs Fidgits??

Liked it, graphically stunning, pretty creepy (especially the little girl extracting whatever? from the corpse whilst singing to herself in that sweet little sing songy way boxedin ). Control method seems pretty intuative and actually quite liked using the Electo bolts to fry the leacherthingys. In fact being able to electrify the water whilst they were standing in it was pretty cool little touch.

I did have another go - and did like the 'pipemania' reprogramming the bots hehe and nice to hear its non-linear...

I downloaded it when it came out as well and it didn't take longer than an hour for me to get it. I thought the game was cracking. Looked really nice. Thought it was a bit of a faff having so many different weapons to choose from and deciding which to use to kill those funny people. Was good though.

Well, from playing the demo I also reckon it's a worthy successor to System Shock (also one of my faves), as a thinking man's FPS.

Action was pretty intense I thought, with sneaky, sneaky moments and OMFG LEG IT! bits seamlessly playing into each other.

I think the demo really just scratches the surface, especially regarding use of the Psy abilities (with a lot more than lightning bolts to come). I reckon I'll be buying it.

Loved the environments (especially the scratchy b/w. retro-futuristic film inserts), sound is great and the graphics are up there with the best.

Looks like a good'un to me.
