Bioshock - PC or Xbox 360?
Discussion
As the title says, which should I go for?
I can't stand fps on consoles as you've never got as much control as you have on the PC with a mouse (though having played the Bioshock demo on the 360, it wasn't too bad).
I've got a pretty high end PC with dual SLI 512Mb 7900GTX's, lots of RAM, AMD dual core etc.etc. so graphics should be fairly good on my PC - whether they're 'as' good as the 360 remains to be seen.
So what do you reckon - PC or Xbox 360 version?

If my PC wasn't so antiquated, I would probably have bought it for that rather than the 360. I didn't even bother checking the recommended specs though as I doubt a 2 Ghz Athlon CPU and 512 Mb of RAM cuts it any more, let alone the graphics card....
Come to think of it, I've turned from a once hard-core PC gamer into someone who hasn't played a game on the PC in probably upwards of 2 years. Somewhere along the way, I turned into a console monkey!

It's a matter of practice, a few years ago I would have said the same thing but there isn't a huge amount of difference these days for me.
For something like Unreal Tournament or Counterstrike which is a true twitch-fest then yes I'd agree that you can't beat a mouse and keyboard, but something like Bioshock or Halo that doesn't require you to be quite so fast then it doesn't really matter, especially taking into account the small amount of aim assistance they put in.

On balance, I decided I'd prefer control over any potential graphical gains (though my gfx cards should do a fair job). So PC version is on pre-order
I have just updated the drivers for the 8800GTX, which has, it says, better support for Bioshock. I think I am going to have a lost weekend......

Spot on.Any problems people have using a pad in FPS shooters is nothing to do with the pad, it's down to the user and lack of practice. It just feels too alien to them i assume. You can become just as good on a pad as you can with a mouse. Some of the accuracy i have seen online is astounding.People make it seem as though a mouse is the ultimae control system - the reality is it's just another controler that the majority of the world got used to first. It's like the inverted mouse debate, it feels alien to me to push a mouse forward to look up, i simply have to pull back to do this, but with practice that would all change.
I actually prefer to be able to move a joystick to make me walk, walk a little faster or run these days too.
Also, what's that 360 game due out (or may be out now - not sure) that allows pc gamers to play against 360 players? They have developed that to be level across the board with the developers saying the mouse will offer no advantage. That may or may not mean it runs a little slower, but if i am honest i prefer that anyway.Nothing kills the realism/suspense more for me in games than when you are able to spin around at 1500 mph.
You're thinking of Shadowrun Digby, they've basically fine tuned the aiming reticule on the PC version so that any excessively fast aiming will result in a loss of accuracy until it has remained centred for a little while or the movement has slowed, much like you'd experience when shooting whilst running or fast aiming in something like rainbow six.

As for "Some of the accuracy I have seen online is astounding" - I'm not sure how the hell you can tell?!?!? Probably hax anyway

Frankly, I can't wait for cross platform shooters to come out so I can HS you to pieces to prove my point

I always get turned off any fps with a console port due the way that you get little benefit for being accurate. I mean that on pc exclusives, even arcadey games like soldier of fortune you could headshot and kill with one bullet, with ease thanks to a mouse. But of course its much harder to do this under pressure with a gamepad, so any port game tends to just give you a small damage increase for a headshot.
Halo being the worst example ive played, where each enemy was just a blob you could shoot wherever you liked and they would eventually die...

lol - well, everyone's entitled to their opinion, but frankly (and having been a console/PC gamer for a good 20 odd years), I'd say that's bollox!

Anyone who can't use a pad will say much the same mate, you are not alone

Been gaming here since around 1975 - been there and done the lot but i find it just as easy to use a pad and on games like
COD 3 for example, i don't even have a cross hair enabled.Auto aim and any such stuff is also always turned off.
Bearing in mind i am very very comfortable with a pad, even in the xbox version of CS, i can still get my arse handed to me by the real experts who have sensitivty set to max etc. They move just as they would with a mouse, stop and fire as they would with a mouse and spin just as they would with a mouse.
It's not opinion Sir, it's just the way it is.A mouse is comfortable because we have used them for eons.If pads came first people would take a while to get used to the mouse.

well, the PC demo comes out tonight, at midnight, so you can try both and make up your mind.
PC for me though!
PC for me. Tried the demo. Jesus that's good.PC for me though!
Considering I'm far from 'uber' in games machine terms (C2D 2.0, go 7900 GS). It was smooth, high enough res to be pleasing and wow. Just wow.
Pre=ordered.
