Mac's and gaming?

Hey guys, well as it the title of thread suggests i need some help on the new I Mac, Apple have just introduced.

Basically i need to know whether i can play Cs Source/Half Life 2 etc on it... dont laugh its a genuine question. Its the only game i play nowadays on my current laptop and would continue to play. Dont need to worry about anything else but just need to know would a mac like this run Counter Strike?

Heres the link, ifanyones got thoughts on why i should or shouldnt get one of these i would appricate it.

Also keep in mind i wont feel the need to upgrade parts myself so thats not a factor when deciding on my new machine.

cheers for that i'll do some searching on the Mac forums, the only problem with these is that they are obviously going to be biased.

I was hoping to get a more balanced view on here but i'll go check it out see what enthusiasts rate the I Macs abilities.

If you install XP via BootCamp then it will run as well as a PC of the same spec.
If you use Parallels, Cross-over or VM Fusion then you'll be looking at a fair hit in performance, and not all games will run properly.

Don't know how fast the new graphics cards are though, I'd guess you'd have to go for the ones with the HD2600Pro cards as they've got 256mb video memory.

Native resoution on the 20" ones is 1680x1050 which may or may not be supported by the games you want to play, and full resolution play may tax the card & processor anyway.

If the games a year old or so, then I don't see them giving the iMac a problem - just make sure you give the Windows partition plenty of space during the initial setup of Bootcamp.

Cheers for that, yep looking around insuring that i give bootcamp enough space im sure Counter Strike Source will run just fine

"Shiny screens"?

You'll probably find it's Apples version of "Onyx Black" (Sony) and TruBright (Dell) and every other brand name that describes a 'shiny screen'. They're quite good, but can be a pain for reflecting light.

Personally, if it comes as standard then neat, wouldn't pay the extra for it though

I'll be sampling the delights of Battlefield 2142 on my iMac soon, as the OS X version has just been released. Woo'n'yay'n'stuff.

I also play things like Civ IV, Command & Conquer:Generals and Unreal Tournament 2004.

So yeah, gaming's a go on your Mac. For things Steamy, you'll be best served by Boot Camp.

I think when reading Mac forums i have to remember that some of them are a bit 'different' to myself.

I remember reading some where complaining that you cant get a matte screen anymore and due to their photo editing 'needs' the 'shiney screen' isnt close enough to the pyhsical end result..... WELL GET A MAC PRO and choose the screen that best serves your need! I love my X-black sony screen so it wont be a problem i just wanted to see if it got a reaction out of anyone on here?

Could anyone give info on the graphics card used on the top spec machine?
